http://www.givemesport.com/350053-premier-league-without-defensive-blunders-makes-arsenal-champions Stats showing that without personal errors, Arsenal would have won the title. I think this shows just how well the other top sides pressure the ball high up the field, and that we need to get better at it.
Couldn't it be argued that most if not all goals are caused by errors? Poor marking, not following a players run, bad clearance, not closing down quickly enough, a poor tackle giving away a free kick in the wrong place, a player being sent off for a stupid tackle etc. Not criticising whats been written but I am always dubious of these kind of stats
Heres an interesting one and probably the first time in decades that we appear to have benefitted. Although I do think a lot of the decisions may have been judged with the usual media bias against us as Im sure there have been a lot of games this season where bad overall ref displays have given our opponents an advantage http://www.debatabledecisions.com/english-premier-league-tables
One of the reasons why I hate singling out players for mistakes. I think most goals are the result of multiple errors, not just one. But anything that puts Arsenal top is worth posting!
Ah but Arsenal are top of the fair play league indicating that we don't debate decisions quite so much .
Possibly the most pointless of stat massaging articles. Altering the very nature of what actions players make on the pitch delivers an alternate outcome which obviously cannot be predicted. Its one thing to discount ref mistakes but if a defender was not marking a player and you concede for example, well if the defender did mark and cleared the ball which goes to an opposing forward who scores a good goal that was no ones mistake. And so on and on. All it really points out is that Arsenal make more mistakes than anyone else in the top 6
Yep, that's where we were going wrong. Like A87 says, after we handed the spuds the game at WHL with our self sacrificial defending - we tightened up and then went on a championship form run only topped by Utd in our run in.
Interesting stats. Perhaps in some ways encouraging for Arsenal. Stamp out the errors and there is a very strong team there. I would like to see a league without officiating errors as well ...
