This nationality thing is quite funny. My neighbour in England was quite convinced that I was mad coming to live here as all of the French would hate us. Despite the fact that we owned our house for six years before moving, so knew the natives quite well, she would not accept that any of them were human beings.

I was nervous about going out and about in Paris, but found them quite charming, there is the odd exception but that is the same in every country!

A day trip to Calais only I think and the natives stirred the sea up to make her unwell. She also formed her views on the sayings of a certain newspaper.

We got caught in Calais once when the sea was bad, and all the ferries were cancelled. It's at times like that you realise how horribly ignorant and embarrassingly stupid the English can be!

Al, my trips to Paris have always been made enjoyable in part by some of the people I met. Some of the teenagers have been really helpful pointing us in the right direction when catching the trains. Maybe they are the educated ones as they don't grunt.

The ones who you have to be wary of are the elderly ladies, mutton dressed up as lamb, with a small dog as a fashion accessory. They can be quite rude when you don't see the dog and tread on it. <yikes>

Yes hornette, I can become very French when I wish that the man yelling at a takeaway worker would shut up.

It is also quite funny going around the supermarket when the English are in town. They assume that no one can understand them and can be very indiscreet at times.

lol yep, that kind of thing. We were in a restaurant waiting and there was an Englishman shouting at the waiter because he wasn't understanding. When he shouted "why don't you speak English, you're in bloody Calais!" i hung my head in shame and was just grateful i didn't know him!
