Not compared to yesterday - grey and chilly - just like the mood. PS - particularly for Away In BC - I have now steeled myself to start watching the Wembley match I recorded. Only about 10% of the atmosphere comes through, they must mix out nearly all the crowd noise.
Yep Wylde, on sky they said the opposite during the Half time break.. His crosses were the best and to good for League 2.. quoted by Dave Bassett or was it MIKE Bassett Nobody on the end of them was his words.. He tends to drift out of the game.. That game was worse than the Dagenham away game for me..
The weather was ok in Somerset today... Not good here in Plymouth now.. rain is due.. Well it should be the 2 ports going up next year automatically.. but its not as easy as that..
So Wylde sets off at 90 mph looks up having skinned the fullback and there is nobody in the box. He stops and thinks hang on a minute I'm going to just hold it up for a second..............nah feck it I'll just boot it over anyway and blame the forwards. I think he's scared to hold onto it as somebody might tackle him. I know he doesn't like a tackle. He never makes one. To be fair they were all frustrating on Monday so not just him. I think next season will be the one that Pompey gets right Pompeymeowth. Everything is right for them and if they don't then it will be a massive under achievement. Argyle I'm not sure about. We should have more money and a bigger budget. If we haven't then there is something wrong somewhere. I trust Adams to find some decent players but I still don't trust Brent to give him enough to fund a decent size squad. Don't want 30 players just a bit of cover and maybe 24/25. Couple of loanees on top of that and we are away.
What on earth was Mellor trying to do when the 1st goal went in? Head it 1ft off the ground? All he had to do was get his body in the way. If Taylor had been booked as he should have been in the 1st half for raising his foot to a diving McCormick, he'd have been sent off when he peeled off his shirt after scoring... That's typical of our season.
Yea even listening to Gordon Sparks you couldn't really hear it all. Look forward to next season though.
I thought the Ref wasn't very good myself but I also don't think anyone other than the Argyle team, including management, were to blame for our defeat. The only reason Wimbledon are happy is because they won. They were just as s**t as we were apart from they managed to score. Reminded me so much of our last visit to that place. I said before we went this time that I didn't remember the game apart from the goal as it was rubbish. Tinted views are always there when you win. The only team with a reality check now is us as Wimbledon fans will think their team were Barcelona. The one thing I will say about Officials is that our season has been blighted by crap ones. I keep hearing this talk about "homers" but have yet to see one. Somehow we didn't get much in the way of decisions from the start of the season. Booking for Wylde yet a Womble did the same job on Carey not 10 minutes before that and nothing. As said not that it made much difference but it is yet another stand out proof of the lack of things going our way.
I've just read something on pasoti which I think is very relevant to our season and happened at Wembley too. This was when we were on a break away late in the game and looking like something might finally happen. A Wimbledon player fell to the floor clutching his head. I do remember this and being fuming at the time. The Ref of course stopped the game as he is instructed to do and when it restarted a Wimbledon player kicked the ball all the way back to Luke with his team all recovered and in position. The player who was mortally wounded got up a minute after the whistle went and was absolutely fine. There have been loads of these events this season. More than I can remember from previous seasons I think. We all remember Wycombe as the worst example. This seems to be creeping into the game more and more and it seems obvious that players are being taught or encouraged to do this. It's cheating in the worst possible way to feign injury. I mean what is a Ref supposed to do. He would get slaughtered if the injury was real and he didn't stop the game. But, it's a cheap shot by the player who does it. I think if a Ref is forced to stop a game for that reason then the player concerned should be made to go off and get a full medical on the sideline to ensure he is ok to carry on like they do in Rugby but without another player covering. I fear though that this action will grow as with diving and it will be yet another tool in the dark arts that goes another step towards ruining this game we all love.
I remember that moment and was fuming also as we were on the edge of the penalty area and we get a drop ball? they hoof it back to our keeper.. no advantage. There is not any time wasting at Rugby as the game is kept flowing.. if an injury happens on come the Medics or trainer while play is going on.. at one stage on Saturday 4 players down and 4 people attending while the game continued? Why cant football have this , yes agree if it was serious it would have to stop. Not that many are to serious, thankfully. That will sort these cheats out.. My money is going on us to win the title next year.. its a must.. will look at some odds later.. also Leicester for relegation?
Apparently there is a proposed rule change for next season that will mean all 'drop' balls will be contested.i.e. no more simply punting the ball to the opposition goalkeeper. This might reduce the play acting a little but the only other option is for the ref to yellow card if he suspects it is not a genuine injury. Funnily enough Joe I was also thinking about an Argyle promotion and Leicester relegation double-what a story that would be!
well leicester may lose all their players in The january sales if they out of europe? or they may cash in.. No champs have been relegated so there is a first.. If we are to progress at Argyle its auto matic, we done the semi last year now the final so next season up.. So a bet must be placed.. i will have to look at the odds .. its worth a ton..
It's hard for Referees thugh isn't it. How does he decide if it's genuine or not. Virtually impossible. You cannot convince me though that Managers are not encouraging this sort of thing. I can see why teams slow play down if they can and take their time at free kicks, corners and throws if they are trying to close a game out. That for me is frustrating but fair. But throwing yourself on the floor and pretending? I mean really? Trouble is I don't see how it's going to get stamped out.
Simple Sensible. Every player who goes off has to stay off for a fixed period. I'd say 5 minutes but maybe 2 would be more acceptable to start with.
Video review of doubtful incidences overseen by a panel.....if cheating is the result....straight red card....plus a five game ban......if repeated by that player and proven by a panel again in the same season.......banned for the rest of season.....no appeals allowed. Ok I know that it will be hard to set-up and will need staffing (panel)....but the end result needs to be a cleaning up of the game so everyone plays on a level playing-field. AFC Wimbledon's penalty could have been reviewed by a panel.....the question they ask themselves is .....1)...did the player get tripped....then a Foul, and in this case a penalty)......or 2)...did the player deliberately "trip"....over a foot that was available (or wording that is more appropiate than I can find at the moment) to try and gain an advantage. I know that the game could get messy, with the Referee losing total control if the power of intervention comes from the video panel.....but months down the road after players have been red carded and banned....I feel sure that foul simulation would be drastically reduced if teams where reduced to losing that player from the match...plus a strong ban....and on repeating it again that season...a total season ban....something needs to be done. PS.....Argyle had already lost before Azeez put his drama qualifications to the test....so it isn't in this case just sour grapes.
Plym as we know the ref always losing control of the game without any one else helping .. The idea is good but i doubt they will take any thing like this.. also it will be open to more brown envelopes...
What a let down...got back to Malta early hours of yesterday after a few days of mourning but an excellent show from Green Army. ..be proud of yourselves. ...hopefully can bring in more investment from a sodding billionaire out there somewhere as not bad for a 2nd. Div turnout but surprised was more than 30k seats left but looked less to me....COYG.
No sour grapes from me either plym because I'm not convinced we would have scored if we were still playing now. But we had a chance denied by what appeared to be a con. I'm not sure you could have a panel review anything really. How can they say there wasn't a head injury for sure. I favour the going off for a period to be checked out. I'd say 10 minutes and that would put a stop to would be cheats. If it was an obvious proper injury, and there are a few in football despite all the play acting, then a substitution could be done anyway. My feeling though is that the cheats will continue unabated and the team on the receiving end will continue to complain until they do it themselves. And they will. It was very vocal in the ground hp_bedoboy but you already know that. The Argyle end of the ground was pretty full from where I was sitting and obviously much more so than the Wimbledon end. It wasn't half a quiet walk back to the tube at the end though. To be fair I didn't feel very proud of anything that day. The fact that our players forgot to turn up and were rubbish throughout was gut wrenching. It's enough to put a lot of people off if I'm honest and it will take me a while to forgive it.
I saw Argyle four times this past season. 1.....First game of the season....at AFC Wimbledon........won 2-0....dominant....two great goals. 2.....Home against Bristol R........not to exciting to be honest....we score near the end....they get a penalty. 3.....At Dag & Red....we where abysmal but got an undeserved equalizer at the death. 4.....Wembley....poor game by both sides....we never looked like scoring with one up front. What was obvious to me was that we started well in August and slowly lost our way by late November and then hiccuped our way to the end of the season.....we had so many points in the bag before Christmas that automatic promotion would be hard to miss.....but we did.....and we gave it a damn good go to try to miss out on the play-offs before the end of the season. Too small a squad found us out in the end.....we where unlucky with key players being out injured through the spine of the team and had a very weak subs bench to often.....and on a few occasions not even seven on the bench. That mustn't happen again.....to many players had no one challenging for their place in the starting eleven.....all to cosy.
