Ok brainiacs. What can be done to ensure that we have much more cutting edge in the final third. Is it formation? Do we need two up top? Team instruction to flood the box an a more regular basis? Or should we all just give up and go home?

learn to pass, make decent runs, dont run offside, learn to shoot straight and avoid playing against premiership defences

When when a winger has the ball, the opposite winger should also be in the box. The lone striker should be banned from the channels. At least 1 CM, preferably 2 should be in there and we should have a minimum of 7 in there for corners.

No one seems to want to take responsibility. For far too many times this season we have passed it around far too much around the oppositions box. If you get a chance to get a shot off within 22 yards of goal take it. Who knows what can happen? It can fly into the top corner or we can get a fortunate re-bound. If it goes wide or over the bar the team has time to re-set itself. Too much faffing about leaves us open to a counter-attack.
On the few occasions that we do get a good chance put your laces through the ball, this especially applies to Taarabt on Saturday and v Reading and Mackie v Swansea. We really can't afford to **** about when a scoring oppotunity arises.

NB Don't even think about sending the ball out wide to get a cross in. We all now know that Zamora doesn't like crosses and heading the ball. It used to be goalies that were reknowned for not liking crosses. Maybe Zamora should from now on be known as Dracula.

Like this. These are the kinds of runs and through balls we need to try more often. Of course, Cissé or whoever has to make better runs and anticipate such passes.

Play 4-2-3-1....then you have 2 holding players protecting the back 4, which allows the 3 attacking midfielders and striker to make more progressive runs. Flyer is right also, when the right side player has the ball, the left side player and centre mid need to be joining the striker in the box. Hughes seems so safety
first that we don't see these forward runs very often.

I raised this before the beginning of the season, can't be bother to go back and find what I said then but Col and Flyer have it almost spot on.

The problem we have is Adel and Jnr will not naturally get in the box to support the striker which makes things massively easy for CDs (this is something that Mackie would naturally do). If we are playing 3 in Mid field then only Ali seems to try to get into the box Samba wants to step back and Granreo wants to pick up the pieces outside or just inside the box (this may be instructions from MH), for me one of the biggest threats at this level is the late runs into the box from Midfield, hard for defences to pick up, need to see more of.

The key is to stretch the defenders, single targets in the middle won't stretch them, the part I disagree on is the strikers not making the runs into the channels, Late runs out wide (as Jason Roberts did against us) drags a CD out wide creating space in the middle as long as someone else is getting into the middle it's a good tactic, keep guessing is what I say.

It's really a catch 22, IMO we aren't supporting a lone striker but we need to play 3 in the middle to hold the ball and protect the back 4. For me we need to play 3 in the middle else we get over run which may mean less chance up front, means we have to take the chances we get.

Things are not exactly going swimmingly in the other two thirds either. We're letting in goals and the mid third are not linking effectively. Complete overhaul needed I'm afraid.

It's all about Hughes. When Granero was playing AMF at Real Madrid he was getting into he box. I think that Hughes is afraid of counters so he order players no to go into attack as stupid as it sound

Not stupid, thats exactly what he does and its exactly why we never win, the 2nd half against Reading was a rare example of us playing with some freedom.

Didn't seen Granero at Real much so thanks makes sense or rather as expected, with 3 in the middle you only need one to hang back which should give the support the Centre of the box.
