My lad came back from the game yesterday and said ‘he is done with Charlton. This is the first time he has ever said that and in a way it was the saddest thing he has ever said to me . This is a kid that is on crap dough and working his arse off on an apprenticeship but always looked forward to cafc. His mates feel the same and reading social media - yesterday was the final straw for many.

I fear there is no way back now for cafc. We are done.

Both of my sons were brought up going from a very young age - 18 months old in both cases. Both have followed the club all round the country with me at great expense (to me <laugh>). Both have now completely lost interest in going, mainly due to rank mediocrity shrouding the club. It’s just not enjoyable. My worry is that we are now losing the next generation of fans, who have plenty of other things they can do on a Saturday with their time & money.

It’s the lost legacy that upsets me.

some of my happiest moments was putting him on my shoulders and walking down Floyd Road. Looked a bit silly when he was 16 granted but you get the point. The thought that he won’t do that to his kids one day is rather sobering.

Let us hope that things will improve and interest is rekindled.

It’s completely lost on Methven that what he is going is driving young fans away.

A chicken hut in the car park and £5 pints at 11.30am on a match day is laughable when the team plays such unattractive football. That’s all 99% of fans care about.

The thing is Dick - Apathy has set in, now this could be by design or negligence. I personally feel (and this is for another thread) that the club is deliberately being run down as there is more money to be made on the fire sale to come than the reinvestment needed to improve and elevate the club.

I generally avoid conspiracy theories but it’s no coincidence that none of our last 5 owners (save for Tommy) seem interested in on the pitch sucess. As bad as he was he was a damn sight more ambitious tan this lot

Perhaps Methven can explain where the missing 13,000 have gone from the Wrexham game.

I think the owners were sold a pup by Methven. They thought that they could get promotion by not spending a great deal of money. But it has all gone pear shaped. We have lumbered ourselves with poor players on long contracts. Players like Docherty, Ahadme Berry, etc have little or no resale value. We are in a very poor position. Very few assets and lots of debt.

Perhaps it is no coincidence that Elliott recently popped up again claiming he's going to sue the Club for £600,000 he thinks he is owed.

What's happening to CAFC is beginning to feel like just a longer drawn out version of what he and Farnell were planning to do all along.
This time there won't be a Sandgaard riding to our rescue.

Sandgaard didn’t ride to our rescue , he dug us in even deeper. We got worse under him.

    I disagree.

Elliott and Farnell were weeks away from closing CAFC down and selling off the fixtures & fittings at the Valley & Sparrows Lane.
How could the Sandgaard years be considered worse than a closed Club?

100%, from memory he brought in a fan of ours who is a solicitor, and she wiped the floor with the s***houses.

He did not do much right after that though.

    @Typical part 2

Just as an aside, there’s around a dozen lifelong Charlton fans in my CAFC social circle & what’s app group. All Selhurst veterans and proper South Londoners.

Around 8 of the 12 have stopped going. Several messaged me on Saturday, asking what the game was like.

“Have got better things to do on a Saturday “

    “It’s boring”

Forget forum WUMs, forum try-hards, and geeks, these are the sort of Charlton fans Methven has lost. The real die hards. The ones who went to Simod Cup games at Selhurst, rather than WUM from abroad, or obsess about Sqwarka.

The SMT & Nathan Jones should be ashamed of themselves that they have created such a poor environment where such fans are no longer interested in going.

Not sure it’s correct to say they created it but certainly I’m of the opinion they have not improved it

The Valley will be as empty as Sams' nut before long.
I am confident the Yanks will have the three clowns out come the start of next season. By then there would have been two seasons of total failure.

Say they appoint a new SMT & DoF …who is going to believe their “buy a ST “ sales pitch again ?

PS - I note that the SMT cult on ITTV are now calling for changes to the SMT …everyone apart from Chief Clown Methven.

    Funny that …

There are no yanks coming to fire anyone. The irons are all in Charlie's fire.

You can guarantee that Methven will be the last one of the Officer class to leave the burning bridge.
