Sorry Mattie. Taking the piss, I know but couldn't reduce the following list to just five! Lawrence of Arabia The Magnificent Seven The Colour Purple Blackhawk Down A Few Good Men Glory The Hurt Locker Once Upon a Time in America The Usual Suspects Bend It Like Beckham Schindler's List Platoon Play Misty For Me Top Gun
In no particular order, my current top five films are: It Happened One Night Some Like It Hot The Sure Thing Some Kind Of Wonderful Young Frankenstein Other notables would be Die Hard, Eight Days A Week, A Matter Of Life And Death, You've Got Mail (guilty pleasure) and for no accountable reason I have a real soft spot for the Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy movie. And with all due respect to the relevant posters above, it's slightly sad to see so many people churning out "Shawshank Redemption" - which to me always seems to be added to the list by every person who has never watched it but is pressed to come up with a top 5, because critics mention it all the time. Not that this includes you, it's just that in my mind, it's an OK film but nothing special....
Interesting question and one I often ask people. Sometimes easy to predict, othertimes there are surprises. 1) LOTR (3 as 1) 2) Gladiator 3) Message In A Bottle (have to have one soppy one) 4) The Untouchables. Fantastic acting from all of them and one of Costner's best imo. Sean Connery - awesome. 5) Godfather 2 (1 was good and 3 was just plain daft). So many great movies to choose from!
cool hand luke, top draw film. sound of music (sad eh) colour of money. top gun. great escape. any de-niro films
What, even that Fokker rubbish?? Have to say that he just doesn't cut it in comedy (maybe just lie detector scene, that's about it)
OK let's qualify as any serious movie with De Niro. Absolutely terrifying in Cape Fear. Agree, the Fokker movies were dire.
De Niro. Goodfallas as I posted above my fav. Taxi Driver not far behind (I don't like how it ends.) He's always best when Scorcesse directs. (Casino too which A few have put up.) Goodfella's has one of my favourite scenes ever 'You think I'm here to amuse you...' etc
I forgot 'SCUM' from my list......... 'Where's yer f****** tool' ?? 'What f******* tool' ?? 'This f****** tool'......................whack !!!!
nice to see i added something worth talking about....... So how about 1 - Monty pythons life of Brian 2 - human traffic 3- Layer cake 4- Sawshank colllection...which includes papillon ans midnight express 5 - debbie does..no!.....uuummm Airplane & sequel...! Hope this is more "pc" & to Beth's approval!!
That's a bit harsh Willy - it's probably the best blokey feel good film. It only let's itself down by Andy's erratic behavior building up to a point that conveniently coincides with a thunderstorm that enables him to hammer through pipes unheard and, ultimately, escape. Brilliant tone, pace and atmosphere though.
Lawrence of Arabia Avatar Open Range (Kevin Costner) Lord of the Rings Star Wars (the original trilogy)
Being half Welsh too I know what you mean about crying during Men of Harlech and Full Metal Jacket would have to be in my top 5. Are you my alter ego by any chance?
