Christmas usually boosted the chance of an oddity getting to No 1 as the fight to get the Christmas No 1 often coincided with all the big star releasing their latest records. And yes in those days the No 1 was the one with the most records sold and seeing as the definitive chart in those days was announced on Sunday afternoon's on Radio 1's Chart show of the day, Alan Freeman if I remember, then you couldn't argue.
