A rough draft was a pretty good film, of Lukyanenko's book of the same name, which I can highly recommend also.
A Russian computer games designer, who is very successful, suddenly becomes erased from everyone's memory, even down to his dog. He's then contacted by a group who walk among different versions of earth and is put to work, at an old tower which is a sort of gateway between these different earths. He can enter these other worlds but can never venture too far from the tower or he starts to disappear.
