Morning all, cold and grey here with a yellow warning out to expect some sleet or snow later in the day. Think I will do the weekend shop a day early, then turn the heating up and stay indoors. Must make sure there are sufficient supplies of warming drinks to hand.
The leader of Iceland’s Left-Green movement has become the country’s new prime minister at the head of a broad three-party coalition that could restore a measure of political stability after a succession of scandals. Katrín Jakobsdóttir, 41, a popular former education minister who is considered to be Iceland’s most trusted politician, took office on Wednesday after formally signing a new government accord with the centre-right Independence and Progressive parties. Another young PM compared to many and trusted. What do you think ak?
Morning all, the snow that was forecast duly arrived overnight, and there have been flurries ever since. Took Mme to the local bank, where she needed to prove that she was English and not American. Different rules apply to banking if you come from the States now, although the lady there had no idea what it was all about as they don't have any American customers.
I think something similar is happening here frenchie. Last week my bank sent me a form to complete - a Tax Residency Self-Certification for Individual form. As far as I can make out, it has to do with something called Common Reporting Standard - which allows tax authorities worldwide greater access into taxpayer financial information, which will apparently help the fight against tax evasion. The form asked me to nominate which Tax Jurisdiction I reside in - and for my TIN number, which meant absolutely nothing to me. There was a link to a website listing all the Jurisdictions - basically all the participating countries. Just to annoy them, I nominated Scotland, which wasn't actually on the list...
The dishwasher has expired! The heating circuit has packed up. The cost of an engineer visit and the likely parts needed is about 60% of the cost of a new one. Is there built-in obsolescence I wonder? In the meantime, back to washing up by hand...not a problem until we have four for roast dinner on Sunday!
We have had those as well BB from the UK bank. Had to supply the TIN which is the number that your are registered for tax purposes where you live. They also wanted a certified copy of my passport, assuming that I had a foreign one. When I phoned up to say that mine was from the UK, they said to just ignore that part of it then. I have a distinct feeling that this is another huge filing job, and a new warehouse has been taken over to fill with paper.
Years ago, in Oz, our dishwasher malfunctioned & spewed water everywhere while we were all out - completely ruined the kitchen drawers, cupboards and damaged the flooring, which had to be ripped up to check for floorboard damage. Our insurance covered replacement of everything - strangely, we even got a new dishwasher out of them. Maybe you should try throwing a bit of water around...
To put it in the best light possible it is bleeding cold here tonight. At 8.00 pm most of the French football Ligue 2 games will kick off, and my lot have a game in Auxerre. To go out and sit in a stadium does not seem like a good idea. I stayed in the town a couple of times at the Hotel de la Poste. Wonderful food, but a very odd hotel. A ceiling that was mirrored in the bedroom, a TV that wouldn't turn off, and corridors that had carpets on the floor, walls and ceilings. It is places like that you always remember! Edit: Well I was a week out which will be a relief to the good people of Auxerre. This is a week off for Cup games.
Finally the weekend. Forgot what the home looked like. The Mrs is back in her hometown this weekend so a relaxed one and just bought a big leg of lamb to cook tomorrow before market closed. Kick back, relax and recoup the fuel for the oncoming December madness. People go party crazy here for the festivities but still have a lot of work in the week. Saludos a todos
Good morning all from a cold island, but I prefer that to the smog the players are having to cope with at the India v Sri Lanka Test match in Dehli. The umpires are in a no-win situation as the Sri Lankans want to go off as their players are struggling, but India want to stay out there. I had an email from my Great Aunt yesterday to say that my Great Uncle died of cancer a week ago. I'm not sure how old he was, but she is 90.
Morning all, quite bright but cold here, with the forecast of some snow this afternoon. Chatting on the phone with my friend in Dorset last night who had just come back from a holiday in Morocco. As usual whenever the two of them go off somewhere they pick up an infection of one type or another, this one a hefty dose of antibiotics has been prescribed to deal with the problem. I sometimes wonder why despite the problems they keep going, especially when they visit the same places, and seem rather bored with the experience.
Is there a problem with the not 606 site? I tried to log out of my account last week when I finished work and got the message below. Strangely I got the same thing at home and on my iphone. Fatal error: Call to undefined method XenCentral_MultiSite_ControllerPublic_XenForo_Logout::_getRetainedCookies() in /var/www/vhosts/not606.com/httpdocs/library/XenCentral/MultiSite/ControllerPublic/XenForo/Logout.php on line 64 The way cleared it (away from work) was by cleaning out the history, cookies and cache, which logs you out of everything.
