A colleague who supports Liverpool asked me if I was looking forward to the match this evening. My reply? "Yes, I'm looking forward to Accrington v Wimbledon"!
Morning all from an overcast Jersey. Looks like my reply to my colleague was the right one - just a shame Mingoia's goal didn't send Stanley to Wembley as it was a goal good enough to win any tie.
Morning all from a brightening Bandit Country, hopefully we will get some of the sun promised for this afternoon.
AFC Wimbledon to win the playoff final to reach League One and play MK Dons, and hopefully do the double over them and finish above them next season
isn't it about time that this franchise business was put to bed? Your rancour and advocating of violence does you no favours w-y, no matter how tongue-in-cheek it may be. There are now many young fans watching in that stadium that otherwise would have had to go to Northampton or (heaven forbid) the Kennel to see professional football. Surely that counts for something?
No, not really. If they wanted to watch really local football there was a local semi-pro team they could have watched or they could have travelled a relatively short distance to see professional football. As far as I am concerned this is the thin end of a very dangerous wedge - if we had gone under because of Baz, how would we feel if our club was franchised to Slough or Andover. Hopefully their slide down the leagues will continue - we will then see how loyal their fan base is
The Milton Keynes area deserves it's own league football team in their great stadium, hope they do well. 99% of the supporters are probably locals, anyone from Wimbledon can support the new local team. Some of the football rivalry is so childish.
Every football club has good and bad fans. Every tabloid newspaper loves to demonise them all. We all have other clubs we like and some we don't. For me, a genuine fan is a genuine fan and I respect those who support their local team and not some big name club hundreds of miles away. I tire of the wholesale abuse of any other club, not least because it presumes our own club is above criticism. Apologies, rant over...
I don't think their owner helps matters - he's willing to speak to Sky before games (and probably any other media who'd listen) when they were doing well in League 1, but when they're struggling in the Championship and eventually relegated, he's not so noticeable.
Why does MK deserve a league football team? They are no more deserving than any of the New Towns - Stevenage have got into the FL, but Hemel have not - so on that basis Hemel are more deserving than MK.They should have developed their local team and watched it get promoted up the leagues as AFC have done instead of buying a football franchise. It will be very interesting to see what their vile chairman will do if they slip back down the leagues and the new fans desert them.
I'm sure the MK catchment area is vastly larger than Hemel or Stevenage. We had our own vile Chairman recently which made us also extremely vulnerable. Football clubs are like any other business, if the owner(s) get things badly wrong then drastic things happen. MK had an average gate of over 13,000 last season, Stevenage had just over 3,000. There is obviously demand for a FL club in MK.
morning all. I am finally human after the awards night! Have to say i was a bit worried about the new venue but wow, it was amazing! Great atmosphere, much better than Shendish and the Pozzos very generously paid for all the wine at the table! The players were on form, Karoline (aka Hilda) won Supporter of the season so the second year in a row Supporter of the Season was on my table! If you want the award, just make sure you're sitting with me next season lol. So that's it, season well and truly over...i thought i needed a break, but i don't..is it pre season yet?!
One of our finest achievements - keeping the Dirty Weeds out of the Premiership... http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co....on-effect-cost-leeds-more-than-30m-1-7921877?
I doubt the MK catchment area is that much bigger than Hemel and it still does not explain why MK "deserves" to have a league club. What was MK's crowd when they were in the same Division as Stevenage and of those 13,000 how many actually paid - a couple of my mates are always being offered freebies. As I said, if they slide down the leagues they will collapse and Ikea will be getting a bigger crowd.
