Morning all from a bright and sunny West West London, lovely morning here.

I wonder if that "dive" by Rooney had been committed by a foreign player, it would have been seen differently by the pundits last night? I am still laughing about Keown's comments that he was not offside for the first goal as he did not touch the ball - and they get paid for that!

    From wikipedia.
    Diving (association football)
In association football (soccer), diving is an attempt by a player to gain an unfair advantage by diving to the ground and possibly feigning an injury, to appear as if a foul has been committed. Dives are often used to exaggerate the amount of contact present in a challenge.

Fernando Forestieri will be confused. Wayne Rooney simulates, gains a penalty and that is not diving and FF is kicked to the floor, cautioned for simulation and that is diving.

Got back last night from my friends wedding in IoM. It took a slight turn for the bizarre from my point of view when I realised that one of the people doing a reading was someone I was at school with who now lives there. I hadn't seen her since we left school in 1991. It gets even more unlikely it was her that I should meet when you consider that we were the only 2 epileptics in our year and possibly the whole school at the time.

    From the BBC:

    Rotherham boss Steve Evans:

"What an advert for Rotherham United being (in) the Championship.

"There's tinges of great disappointment being 3-1 up. We got a point but we have come across the best team and manager in the division."

We will have to correct him on that in a couple of weeks.

    Rooney apologized
Wayne Rooney Manchester United captain and England apologized for the dive he took in the game against Preston in the round of 16 of the FA Cup in football the night before last.
Preston goalkeeper Thorsten Stuckmann says in the English media today that Rooney had come to him and apologized; but Rooney's penalty after the business with Stuckmann sealed victory 3:1 for United in the game.
"After the game he told me; I'm sorry, this was an opportunity for me to get a penalty. I had to take advantage of that", said Stuckmann in an interview with the English newspaper The Sun today.
Before Rooney scored from the penalty he had played 952 minutes without scoring a goal.

Morning all from a dry and bright rural France. Bit chilly at present with the wind coming from the north-east, but due to swing round to the south later, so should warm up. :emoticon-0100-smile

My elderly neighbour, late 80s, has received a new hip and is now out and about with her elbow crutches. Everyday she sets off down the hill with the physio in attendance and goes a bit further each time. Today she almost made it to my green lane before turning round for the climb back up. I fully expect that it will not be too long before she is out driving into town to do her shopping. Since she had the operation she has been well looked after by the home help services, together with friends and neighbours who have made sure she is alright and has what she needs. Many years ago she lived in my house in the days when it was just one room. She came in to see the changes and told us what it was like to bring up four children in such a small space. How times change.

It is hard for clubs - how on earth are you supposed to prevent people purporting to be fans from travelling from London to Paris? Sure, if any of them had official tickets they should be banned by the club but what's the betting most didn't?

so you are saying that you think they mite have already have banning orders . so they pay to travel and hope to buy a ticket on the black market. it should be a crime to sell tickets at more than face value . they should only be sold via the club if this was the case the club could control who it sells tickets to. rant over

Brian - the club will definitely have had strict control on ticket sales. I just suspect that many will have travelled without tickets (I'm sure they would have sold out very quickly given the location) hoping to either get them on the night or to soak up the atmosphere. Reagrdless, not a good way to behave

My cousin who is much older than me of course, is an ardent Chelsea fan and has traveled all over Europe to watch them. Met up with him a couple of years ago and even then he admitted that for some reason they attracted some very undesirable follows. He was at a loss to understand why, as you don't expect well heeled fans, which you have to be to follow them, to behave in such a despicable way.

Morning all, a heavy frost when I got up this morning, but within an hour it has disappeared. The wind has veered 180° and is now coming up from the south. Hopefully a decent sort of day in the offing when I can do some outside jobs. Looking forward to Saturday's game. It seems as if everyone is full of doubt about how we will play and what sort of result we will get. Looks as if Norwich are on the up, but then some of the results are hardly going to form. I will try and do a match thread this evening for it, but will not predict a result.
