Just what we need: another excuse to raise the retirement age....

Sorry if I spoilt your afternoon. There are a number of ladies I know out here who are outraged that their pensions have been delayed.

Mrs Fez is lucky enough to have the funds to retire (our finances are completely separate, aside from the house) but I'm annoyed for my cousins and I just know the current shower of sh*te that masquerades as a government would have me working til I drop.
A juvenile robin came to visit the garden... and OMMMMMMM

I spent several hours this afternoon preparing a piece of ground for a succession sowing. Too hot really, or my age is starting to catch up, but I was joined by a robin that sat on an oak tree and watched. Eventually I had to go in search of some shade and as soon as I moved out of the way it was down seeing what I had turned up. Last year a robin would fly down and sit within a metre of me, so I suspect that the one today was a young one.

Morning all. Summer like again today and rather stuck here at the moment waiting for a parcel to arrive. It started the journey in Dormagen, which I guess cologne knows about, on Monday afternoon, and then went on to the Pays de Calais. From there it went to Niort and then Poitiers. It left the depot there at 10.00 am and will be with me today they say. Most of the journeys have been overnight, showing how the world has stopped sleeping properly. Transport cost to me; €0. Have a good day everyone. <ok>

Morning all. Another lovely morning with just a light warm breeze. Back to a light lockdown again, but apart from being able to travel quite so far little that will affect us. My parcel that left Germany Monday arrived here at midday Wednesday, delivered by a delightful young lady in a small white van. White vans are everywhere, not just delivery people but farmers as well. More than once I have followed one with a couple of sheep peering out of the rear windows. Back to the veggie plot now as the weather is going to change next week, and this fair weather gardener might not be so keen to work in the cold. Have a good day whatever you are doing. <ok>

My sister turned 65 last November - and although she has lived in Munich for over 40 years now and never applied for a UK pension, she last week received a notification from DWP that they're going to pay her £20 a week, backdated to November. Strange really...

Morning all. Looks as if the day is going to be warm and sunny again so will continue with the gardening while I feel like it. Had some bad news yesterday to say that my sister-in-law was in Watford general having had a stroke. According to the WHO chart above she is still in the middle aged group. Trouble with one side not working and speech problems. Brother -in-law not allowed into the hospital to see her, and if you gave her a mobile phone she wouldn't know how to use it. Still they have her up and eating and are looking to get her to the speech therapy unit. It didn't seem to be the right time to suggest that she would be able to tune into hospital radio and listen to the game today. Have a good day whatever you are doing. <ok>

Duggie, you have only stated that you have “not turned into a rabid light avoiding berserker or a ravenous zombie”, but there is no indication whether you already were such. Please clarify.

<yikes> I won’t be middle-aged for more than 10 years! I thought I was firmly middle-aged and quickly creeping to the wrong side of it!
I think I will spend the rest of the day with a baseball cap on backwards and my trousers loosed to well below my waist.

Morning all. Bright and dry, but the wind has become strong and is coming from the east, so nowhere near as warm as the past few days. Our youngest told us that she had sent us a present from England last month, and gave us a tracking number. I have followed it daily and it appears to have left the UK then returned at least twice. It finally made an escape for freedom and is due to be delivered today. I have no idea what is in it, although she has been supplying us with tea bags for the last six months. The supermarkets do sell small boxes of 40, but at 6 bags a day they do not last the week out. We await the arrival of Mme. La Poste. Have a good day. <ok>

A bit chilly up here today - currently 4C, but bright sunshine and not a cloud in the sky. I had intended to do some much needed pruning in the garden today - but a quick look at the forecast for the next 48 hours has made me think twice. Heavy snow due on Monday and I'm not sure that giving trees/bushes a haircut would be a good idea right now.

Am still smarting a little over our 'sewage disaster' yesterday. We share a large block of land with five other houses, built in a horseshoe formation. The sewage pipe flows from the house opposite ours, down under the common land area, along by the other four, then does a right hand turn just before reaching us. Unfortunately for us, any blockages happen just at the righ hand turn and we are the ones to suffer the effects first - those effects being that the blockages force sewage back into our wastewater pipe & to come up through the drain outside our kitchen window. I called Scottish Water out yesterday to unblock the pipe - when their team arrived, they tried to tell me it wasn't their problem as the blockage was in a pipe under our land and they were only responsible for the pipe outside of our property. Cue a rather acrimonious discussion, during which they claimed that the pipes were 'illegal'. I'm not exactly sure what they expected me, or anyone else in this situation, to do - but luckily I'm a bit of a squirrel and have a habit of keeping bits of paperwork. Over the ten years since we bought the house, I've had to call them out three times for the same problem - so I produced the dockets for each visit and asked them to explain why this hadn't been a problem before. Thankfully that shut them up - and they got on with the job.

Morning all. Bright blue sky, but still a chilly wind. Fetched some bread from the machine and noticed that there were some pain au chocolat in there. Just right for Easter Sunday I thought. Not enough loose change left, so I will get them on my card, except that useful piece of kit wasn't working. I left the machine feeling downcast. Never mind, I will just have to wait for another day. Enjoy your day everyone. <ok>
