Ankle after the weekends football, mush have pulled my calf a little as it’s sore and this will be the fluid after sitting at my desk all day.

can’t say I have missed being battered and bruised for 2-3 days after a game, age does take its toll.

I get the fun in it, I certainly could see a reason why I would have one if I lived where you do.

But the one question it does raise in my head, it feels as though you are putting your fitness on the back step. Think we've all known you since you've been on here, as the guy that rides his pushbike everywhere in his freetime when he can, which must do wonders for your health, and you replaced part of that with laziness as all these new modern creations do. I'm sure you'll still be fitter than most, but in someways it seems a tad sad. But having said all that, I would be doing what you are doing in a similar situation, so I get it.

I've still got my mountain bike, so this isn't really a replacement.

I used to think ebikes were cheating, like you say partly laziness and just taking away the challenges and making everything easy. And they absolutely can be used that way if you want to. But I've found that you can use them putting in just as much effort, but it just allows you to go further. So instead of doing 10 miles on my MTB, I'm doing 20-25 miles on the ebike. So it's great to set out and know you can basically explore wherever you want to go without absolutely ****ing yourself over.

They also allow you to tackle some hills that are just really painful on an pushbike and yeah I guess it does smooth out some of the pain of those climbs, but to be honest that's probably the least enjoyable part of cycling anyway lol.

They've got their limitations though, they are big and heavy and there's definitely places that I can't get to on the ebike that I can on my MTB. I like to get off the beaten track and a lot of times that means carrying the bike over granite hedges, gates and through thick overgrown rough fields etc. The one I've got is probably best suited to gravel tracks, bridle paths and tarmac. That said last night I was hauling it over a granite stile lol.

Thanks for the explanation. How do you charge it, can you take the battery out to do that? and do you do it indoors or in an outbuilding?

Both, you can charge it on the bike or take it off and charge it that way. I tend to take it off and charge it in the shed. There are some horror stories about ebike batteries catching fire and burning people's houses down, but they tend to be cheap batteries or chargers, or DIY set ups where there's no battery management system to stop the battery from overcharging.

    £800

I sold a surfboard that I made last year and made £100 overall :)

Apart from the fact that I had to drive to Essex to get the bike and spent £45 in a days inn overnight lol

Yeah, that would be my concerns with the horror stories you hear, so sensible. I know for general household and personal item chargers, my lad said it was too many people buying cheap **** off the internet.

Yeah it's that. Cheap crap from Alibaba or marketplace. There's a big trend for DIY ebike conversions, so you can buy a rear hub motor, the battery, controller, charger etc. But all of those systems need to be rated accordingly and work with each other and a lot of the time they don't. It's just mix and match and hope for the best unless you know what you're doing.

Also, you get people building batteries themselves out of cells and there's no overcharge cut of systems or it's matched with a charger with the wrong amperage etc

And then people wonder why their house goes up in flames.

Nope, It was just off the M3 somewhere, so I did the get out of Essex bit, round the M25 and then heading west.

Place stank of weed though lol. I was going to leave that on a Trip advisor review and leave 5 starts as a result <laugh>

I've seen some horrendous videos of batteries catching fire, and they don't just burn, then go off like a gas canister because of the volatile chemical mixtures in the battery cells. Watched a really disturbing video of some bloke who gets into a lift and the battery explodes. There's then CCTV footage of the lift opening and people pulling out his charred body. Grim

The battery on the bike I bought is made by LG so they are decent cells, and there's what's called a BMS fitted, which is a battery management system which regulates the charge and prevents overcharging/overheating.

I'd still never charge it indoors though.
