Have any of you lot ever worked in the UAE? I’ve got an option to go for a very decent position, but not sure on the whole thing tbh.

I worked in Saudi (which is close) for 6 months can't say I liked the place but my situation was probably a lot different to yours and the UAE is probably a lot nicer.

Saudi is awful. I’ve never lived there but used to go regularly on biz back on the ‘80’s. I liked Abu Dhabi, Oman and Dubai back then.

Been there on business trips - its a bit sterile. Your Mrs would be happy - they have some great designer shops.

Yeah I’ve been offered Saudi before, had to turn it down for reasons I’m not going into on here. I’d go in a heartbeat if money was all I cared about.

Yeah I’ve been before, lots to do but I ain’t sure working there is so appealing. I’ve probably answered my own question there anyway, I’m not excited about the opportunity.

I had an offer to go there and the money was superb, decided against it.

Dog woke me up crying at 3. She'd **** all over the kitchen floor so I spent two hours jumping between cleaning that up and spewing my guts up down the bog.

Now receiving my shot of Jezza. I'm enjoying being out of work way more than I ever imagined. Weather and light nights are helping no end.

Love Oman, hate Dubai, never been to Saudi, my brother goes on business and says it's weird.

I was offered a job in Dubai many years ago. More than twice what I was earning in the UK and tax free. Had recently bought a place with the missus and she didn't want to go. Neither did I really other than for the money and glad I didn't do it as I've seen the ex-pat lifestyle out there and it's so false and soulless.

Nearly went to Abu Dhabi about nine years ago, back end of the last recession. Would have been going on my own too, my middle son just been born and the contractor I worked for had gone bust.

Scary times. It looked ok on the face of it, was mainly concerned with being able to play a bit of golf and squash occasionally to be honest, which it looked like I would.

Anyway, I got a job locally last minute so that sorted that.

I didn't go, so not really much help that to be fair.

I doubt I could go, I’d imagine the extra money I’d make would be spent fetching over, wining and dining her family and friends anyway. My Mrs has a knack of making me feel skint no matter how much I earn, I miss the days of earning £200 a week as a teenager and having no bills and no food to pay for.

My Mrs will tell me something stupid when I get home tonight like the dog has had a £70 manicure.

Mrs luv is terrible with money she's always banging on if I spend but then buys stuff all the time for the kids and herself. I stopped worrying about it and just get what I want.

My first ( American) was like that. She could actually make money disappear. I’d look at my Amex bill and ask her wtf she’d spent so much money on. She could never completely reconcile it.

I came close to earning money faster than she could make it disappear a few times, but she won.

This is the problem...you have to adapt to someone elses philosophies of everyday life or your marriage fukt

That thought is too scary for me
