    Afternoon fellow Spurs fans,

I have made on of these on the main Premier League page but I'm happy for this to be just one for us Spurs fans as everyone seems pretty sound on here. Copy and pasted below :-

I don't know about anyone else but I like to have a bet fairly often (probably too often).

I hadn't seen a place that discussed footballing (or sporting in general) bets on here so thought I'd make a thread for it.

This is basically the place to come if you have a question about a bet e.g. (What do you guys think of ....) or to simply give others some tips if you think you've found a decent bet / odds!

Ill kick us off and say William Hill are offering 4/1 on Southampton beating Schalke tonight. Not a sure fire thing but decent odds and I think they could do it.

Please do not post if you are against betting or laughing at others if you don't agree with what they say or if they lose a bet - If you are not interested move along

I head over to the betting board at times, only posted once or twice, usually just look for horse tips! :D

I recommend getting on the match trebles on Paddy Power, posted about this last season too. It's a gold mine. Had 3 out of 5 winners.

Treble consists of over (or under) 12/13 shots.
Over (or under) 40 points - 10 points yellow. 20 for red (I think).
    And Over (under) 10 corners.

You can usually get odds of around 6/1 some times more.

*The amount of the over/ under number changes.

    This year I'll be on the following;

    Chelsea to win the PL
    Chelsea to win FA Cup
    Spurs to win C1 Cup

Chris Hughton or Jol for Sack Race

I've not looked at odds yet though

    Chelsea PL
    Man City FA Cup
    United Carling Cup
    Tottenham Europa League
    Swansea to get top 6
    RVP Golden Boot
Jol to get sack first. (This seems a good bet considering the change of owners)

Malky Mackay first to be sacked <ok>

Chelsea to win Champions League <ok>

If Spurs keep Bale, which I presume they will + Arsenal sign Suarez I'll be lumping on United to finish outside the top 4.

As a Spurs fan, predicting we'll finish above Man U is madness. But right now it's looking like the next four teams are strengthening significantly while Man U is weakening significantly. If I were Moyes or anyone else at Man U I would be sure to make at least one marquee signing this window.

D/L is doing it from a position of strength, seeing as he is a Chelsea fan, they will be the team to beat this season IMO

Until the window has closed we can't definitely say anything, but on paper:

    - Spurs have better Centre Backs
    - A better midfield
    - A better manager
    - A settled squad with belief in the manager

Combine all these factors then why is it impossible for Spurs to finish above United? Or any team for that matter.

It's highly unlikely United will equal their points tally of last season and IMO, it's highly likely Chelsea, City, Arsenal and Spurs will increase theirs. It's going to very open this year if you support a top 6 club.

Chelsea and Man City are neck and neck for the favorite tag. Man City have more talent, but Chelsea have a more coherent squad that was on a tear last year and benefit, presumably, from getting Mourinho back.

But none of this stuff is written in stone: it's written in the players' minds. The main reason favorites don't get upset in the early rounds of tennis tournament isn't because they're much better players. They're not, only just. It's because the other player is usually beaten before the first serve.

But every once in a while they aren't.

While I'm not against betting in general, the odds you'll make money betting on team sports are appallingly low. I think there is money to be made in betting on boxing, or on individual tennis matches. If betting were legal I would have seen if I could make money betting on boxing, which I've followed with interest most of my life. My predictions seem to be right the enormous majority of the time--though I would guess the moment I had money riding on it, I'd stop being able to pick a winner.

    <yikes> You feeling alright ;)

Up until about halfway through last season AVB's reputation was poor, Moyes could raise his in similar fashion this season. As much as Moyes hasn't proven himself at such a high level yet, he's a very capable manager and I think some are underestimating him. Also as much as the rest of our squad is pretty good, we're at polar opposites in terms of our striker situation. There's a reason strikers tend to cost more and that was borne out by United last season, they didn't have the best squad but they had the best striker in the league with a host of other good strikers on top of that.

Good points. As long as they can roll out Chicharito behind RVP they've got a real chance at the title.

Sporting Index have us coming 5th, 7 points behind Arsenal, 12.5 behind United and 14.5 behind City and Chelsea who tie first.

I reckon I'm going to buy our points at 67. Made money on this bet for four years running now.

I made £400 last season with £1-£3 bets! Last season as in August - June.

Lots of money to be made if you are good at reading the form tables.

    That was on German / French / Italian / Spanish / Prem / Champ / Europa / Champs L / FA / Carling

You need to open an account with a spread betting company. I use Sporting Index. You bet, say £1 per point (or a higher or lower amount depending on your risk appetite). If you buy Spurs points at 67 and they end up with 74 then you win £7. If they end up with 50 then you lose £17. There are various markets - I usually bet on the Premier League Championship index which is an artificial structure that settles at Winner = 60pts, Second = 40pts, Third = 30pts, Fourth = 20pts, Fifth = 10pts, Sixth = 5pts. All others = 0. Spurs are currently quoted at 12-15 so are a buy if you think they will be fourth or better and a sell if you think they will be fifth or worse. Chelsea are 37-40 so they need to win the league to be a good buy and be worse than 2nd to be a good sell. The prices are updated all through the season so you can close out at a profit (or to limit your loss) at any time. This is the highest starting Spurs quote ever as I recall. I prefer this bet to the points one usually as the losses can only be 15 and the gains could be 45. I think the points one is more symmetrical in outcome.
