Question - why do the BBC so evidently detest Southampton FC? Just watched MOTD2..supposedly talking about the four games today. They discussed three of them - guess which one was ignored?
I don't think they detest us. It's just that we're not a "big" club and we aren't based in London so most of the country don't care about us.
Just after the programme started, I said to my wife "While they're building up to start talking about the Saints, I'll just go and do my packed lunch for tomorrow." My wife recognised my comment as being ironic, and replied "No need to hurry back then."
...so why were they banging on about WBA then? It is hardly the first time we have been ignored by the BBC.
Probably because they scored 4 goals for the first time in about 10,000 years. If we score 4 goals today, pretty sure we'll get a lot of attention on motd2.
WBA are doing surprisingly well. The media don't have an agenda against us. We are not one of the glamour clubs so, like WBA, we have to be doing something a little bit special to get ourselves recognised. Tbh, we've had quite a bit of exposure in the last few seasons simply because we have been playing and achieving above media expectations. This season, we're not. That's not surprising. We've lost Pelle and Mane, and we don't have comparable players. We're playing pretty well, just not scoring freely as before. Back to the subject though. Think about it. Watford won earlier today. Note something there.? I didn't mention who they beat. Conversely, the media led all their match news on the defeated side. I won't bother to tell you who they were because, like me, I know you won't be interested. The media do have an agenda there. They'll explore a glamour club at every possible opportunity, good or bad, at the expense of a very good PL club. Yes, it isn't fair either.
I think it's also probably because this is really in essence a shifted Saturday game rather than a pre-scheduled Sunday game. Not that it should make a difference.
Because they easily beat the almighty champions league elect West Ham. They have had loads on West Ham this season including some tiny old bloke who apparently owns them and talks rubbish for ages. Evidently like QPR in their brief spell, West Ham are one of the London media favourites.
They don't have an agenda against us, but we also are not on their agenda. For a public service broadcaster, that's pretty ****.
