There's been a murder in Westbourne Ave. Apparently there was one a couple of years ago. The Avenues used to be a really nice area. What is going on? Drugs? Students?
There's been two murders in 24 hours, both stabbings, the one in Westbourne Ave and another down West Parade (Spring Bank). The Spring Bank one apparently involved a lot of people, a 21 year old died and two people (one 30 and one 38) have been arrested for murder. The Westbourne Ave one was a 39 year old stabbed in an altercation outside his house and a 20 year old has been arrested. Remember, violent crime is very rare, don't have nightmares, do sleep well....
Looking at the video on the hdm site it looks like the murder took place in a ten foot behind the property's, if my memory serve me right didn't the residents want these areas security gated off and the council agreed to do it, but one resident objected on the ground's that it infringed his civil liberties and won at a hearing so the council were unable to install these gate's.
That was what happened and this was one of the ten foots that was going to be gated. The campaigner was very vocal and his name and where he lives was published all over the place, I bet he's keeping his head down.
I found this info very helpful. For my own safety I've just killed all mine. Got in there first whilst the iron was, literally, still hot. Proves your theory but at least I'm safe.
There has been a rise in petty crime in the Avenues area since the opening of a half-way house on the corner of Westbourne Avenue, where the old YPI building used to be. Humberlink ? or someone run the place and it was opened without residents knowledge, or without having to apply for planning permission. Which was odd because residents cannot cut a tree down without obtaining planning permission first but someone can open a hostel for drug addicts, alcoholics, and people with mental health issues without having to inform those living down the same street. Caused a bit of a kerfuffle. Don't know if this murder was connected to the hostel but it took place across the road from it at 8.30 am.
If it's the place I'm remembering, it was the YWCA; then empty for some while; but now I hear there's a lot of street dealing near it...
I'd forgotten about that, for some reason I thought it had happened at the house at the top of spout hill.
