To be fair, he probably didn't know. He would have been locked in the toilet with his head in his hands having given up his wicket in each test.

I do respect the Sky experts such as Nassar, Atherton etc. They speak very intelligently about the game, but did make me laugh when they got onto the subject of squad selection. I distinctly remember them doing a programme in Sept/Oct about who to take to Australia and they both picked about 95% of the players that ended up failing or not playing. Certainly remember Atherton saying that "Tremlett must play as he did so well last time down under". Yet this morning he suggested it was folly to select players out of form who just happened to deliver 3 years ago.

We need someone aggressive and, dare I say it, almost Australian in manner. Broad is as close as we have....

I agree with that style of captaincy, but for me, when Broad does his bolshy hardman act, it's far from convincing... in fact, it's almost laughable. Just not got the face for it unless he broke his nose or grew a beard, but I'm not sure he's even started shaving yet.

Is it too late to bring back Paul Collingwood ?

Oh right. Genuinely thought it was Broad. Sorry.

Apparently Bell has captained Warwickshire a little and done okay. I don't know though, I just don't really see him as captain material.

I'm not convinced wholesale squad changes are the way to go. Some changes are likely anyway because there are serious question marks over the second opener, number 5 batsman, wicket keeper, third seamer and spinner. That's more than enough uncertainty for one team. It's also worth remembering that Australia were whitewashed in India not too long ago and have recovered with much the same players and the same captain.

We need a nasty, gripey, aggressive bugger in the Botham/Ponting mould.

Possibly but there's a clear difference between the two. Carberry is several years older and has no proven record at international level. Cook is the youngest player ever to 8000 runs, has made more hundreds for England than anyone else in history and has an average in the mid-40s. He's in poor form but there's no reason to believe he can't score runs again.

Before we get too down on the opening batsmen, check out the performance of their oppo's in the Aussie squad. They didn't exactly cover themselves in glory either.

    Not sure about that.

Warner scored 523 runs at 58.11
Rogers scored 463 runs at 46.3

Carberry scored 281 runs at 28.1
Cook scored 246 runs at 24.6
