That's a bit of a myth. They spent about £70m in the summer, although obviously recouped a lot of it. They did what we wanted to do with the big income. they invested in more players at a lower price to increase squad depth but theirs have hit the ground running.

They spent £58m and ended the window with a negative net spend of over £34m as they recouped over £92m

They bought 6 first teamers to replace the 5 high profile sales

Nice, deserved, good quality, straight-up wum! Welcome!

Yes, while the Saints were busy doing all that reasonable stuff, we were also occupied with the similar upgrades... like

Suarez with his lost identical twins of Balotelli & Lambert
    Moses with Borini
an injury-prone Sturridge with an injured Sturridge
an inspirational Stevie G with a deflated older Stevie G
Flanagan, Jose Enrique and Johnson with the inherently-experienced Spaniard DNA of Manquillo and Moreno
    Allen with Can
nobody with Markovic (this possibly being the only non-upgrade)
    Agger with Lovren
The back 30' of Coutinho with Lallana

It's genius work that will take off like a domino effect. It's just that the first domino is a bit stubborn to fall.

You do that mate, 50m.for Tadic then we will probably find an even better player for 10-20m with an extra 30m to play with :)

Infact shall we do this every summer, you pick 3 players and pay treble what there worth, we find better players in that position? we will have Courtois, Varane, Pogba and Hazard by 2019, safe to say thats when our little agreement will stop ;)

hahaa you lot being in league1 in 2019 is more likely to happen than those names joining SouthAmpton FFS.
Infact there's a very good chance of it happening, after all it's only been 3 years since those lousy days in league1 hasn't it?

    Don't get over confident...
You've had a great transfer window where your new buys all clicked quickly and worked out. Repeating it year on year is a very different matter, as plenty of PL clubs can testify to - including us.

You're also very quick to dismiss Lallana as though he was just an alright player for you who did well to flog just because his replacement has hit the ground running. Lallana was fantastic last season for you. Him not continuing his last season's form (or leaving you in the way that he did with his supposed lies) doesn't make him bad, over rated, over priced and mean it was a brilliant idea to sell him.

I would ignore any Saints fan that suggests that Lallana, Lovren and Lambert are rubbish. The first 2 are knobs but still top footballers.

I would laugh my tits off at any Saints fan that came up with the following:
As for Lambert vs Pelle, ill save you the embarrassment with that one.

Pelle is an all out centre forward. Lambert is a forward that scores and creates and keeps possession and (could go on.) So Pelle will outsocre Lambert BUT how many players created more chances than Lambert last season in the Prem? I may be wrong but I think it was only 1 and you used to have him :)

All are excellent and all will do a great job....when you get a decent manager :)

    Good point.

koeman has had an ideal opportunity to bring in his own team fast and has not had to work with players who might have not suited said style.

he's made you mean at the back as the first step so with that and frankly tadic and pelle it means for now you are sailing along. we'll see how long it lasts depending on injures and suspensions and how you react to those but the basis of a strong defence is a good thing to have for that too.

I feel lambert can't make chances sitting on the bench and its balotelli whos the disaster not any southampton signings.

And we'll it may do just that. Spurs fans saying they would batter us Stoke. We outplayed them for 80 mins without breaking sweat. But, we know that we could just as easily go belly up vs Burnley next game.

I am pleased for the Saints but comments by the OP are simply stupid.
Now? Spurs board is full of their fans saying, they are s""t. It's a long season, if Saint's finish in the top 4 I would be amazed. Just a neutral fans view.
Problem for the Saint's is simple. There is only one way it can go and that is pearshaped.
Well done so far but, it's too early to start taking the P""s fella. Which is exactly what you are doing.

    Mine too More in....
We are playing football now, not PULIS BALL which I hated. Long may it continue. We're making progress, slow but sure. As for Liverpool? Far too many class player's to struggle IMHO. B.R. will get it right and I still think you can finish top six. Southampton? We'll see come May next year.

After the accursed international break, we've got three "easy" games coming up to get us back on track.
One of them is you- I hope you're going to do the noble thing and let us have the three points. <whistle>

Was Pulis bad for you? he did a good job at Palace didnt he?

As for BR, I cling onto the fact that our opening 3 seasons with him have all started slow until things click, hope that is the case this time
