Last night I watched the final concert live on T.V. of the Tragically Hip and spent most of it in tears watching the iconic Gord Downie say farewell to Canadians from his home town of Kingston, Ontario. Earlier this year Gord was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer and decided his best way to say goodbye was from the stages across this vast country and the receptions he has received shows the world the measure of this man.

The only reason for this post is that I was thrilled to see news of the event on the BBC site, which surprised me, because Gord and the boys never fell victim to the bright lights of Broadway, and all it's pitfalls, and stayed loyal in all their efforts to Canada. Watching the emotions unfold during the concert, especially those on the floor by couples who remembered their special life events when certain tracks were performed, brought me to tears because I too had special memories of where I was when I heard specific songs.

Gord has a long difficult road ahead and all of Canada is saddened as to why this should happen to such a wonderful talented man, but there are no valid rules when it comes to our health. The music of "The Tragically Hip" will live forever thanks to a remarkable Canadian who had one of his major fans at the concert last night, none other the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

Thank you Gord for your music and your inspiration to Canadians.

Most important things in life are your family and your health.
My daughter has a life limiting condition and every day is a blessing.

I must admit I felt the same way when John Lennon had his brains blown out when walking out of his own front door, I'll never forgive the bastard who done it, even in my addled old age I hope I meet him, the mental prick who killed him,I promise you it won't be good news, for him but a lot of us silver heads will celebrate with me ...
