A glowing endorsement from a young lad with bags of potential...

How far will this lad go?

England striker Danny Welbeck believes his loan at Sunderland helped transform him from a boy to a man.

The rising Manchester United star spent last season at the Stadium of Light and scored six goals while making significant development in his career.

Welbeck returned to Old Trafford this summer and has since scored five goals in eight matches for Sir Alex Ferguson's team this season.

The 20-year-old could also make his competitive international debut for England's senior team in Friday's Euro 2012 qualifier against Montenegro.

.Remote Record..And he is aware of the importance of his time at Sunderland, as he said: "Just getting the minutes in the Premier League and to be playing week in, week out with the big boys was a really big step for me.

"I really loved my time there. Even off the pitch, living on my own, was different.

"Moving away from home helped me grow. I even had to cook my own food sometimes.

"It wasn't up to scratch, but I improved. As a whole, I grew from a boy to a man."

Fair play to the lad, he was definitely one of the reasons we had such a good start to last season. Real shame we did not make a big offer for him when Bent left.

I hope he does well for England.

We seem to have a good relationship with Man U.
As well as signing some of their old boys we've both benefitted and helped on Jonny Evans and Danny Welbeck.
I reckon it puts us in Fergie's good books regarding any future dealings.
I wish we would beat them on the pitch though.

I hope he replaces Bent the greedy twat and pisses him off again! Rooney and Welbeck up front for England and Darren bent languishing on the sidelines as all of his "superb players" that he went to Villa for have left

I will follow Danny for the rest of his career, and be proud that we helped him on his way.

    Cracking player, good lad.

    All the best mate.
