Tony Fernandes admits QPR have made plans for relegation back to the Championship. The west London club is perilously placed in the Premier League table, with just goal difference keeping them out of the drop zone. But the Loftus Road chairman believes the long-term project heâs building at the club means they would be able to survive demotion to the second tier. â Weâll have some setbacks and if we go down, we go down â Tony Fernandes âWeâve got to be real, itâs tough in the Premier League,â the 47-year-old told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. âI came in at the start of the season with wide open eyes thinking we could go down. The first game I watched was a 4-0 loss to Bolton, so Iâm a realist. âIf we go down weâll have to deal with it. Itâs a long-term project though, we are building a great team with the backroom staff and the squad weâve got. Weâre developing the academy and weâre making plans for a new stadium. âWeâll have some setbacks and if we go down, we go down. But Iâm resolute, I love what weâre doing and once you put a good structure in the results will come.â
No source quoted here but assuming this is from the horse's mouth I am relieved to say the least. Nice one Tony! Exactly what we need to hear right now.
4 years of parachute payments to help us long term. Of course that will be offset if we have to keep Barton and SWP.
I think that you have to give credit where it's due, and as far as I'm concerned TF has said all the right things right from day one, and continues to say the right things today. I don't see the value in looking to deconstruct everything he says and look for cracks where there aren't any, I just take him at face value. If we do go down I can't see him bailing out after all he has said about it being a long term project.
We aren't down yet Ye fickle ... I expect half the premiership has relegation plans I will never accept this until the maths say so an still think we will break into the middle league Watch Villa and Swansea's next few results .. We have to win of course and I haven't seen anything yet that makes us look like we are going down ...in fact we are playing some good stuff for a new team
Villa are starting to make me think they could be that team that drops from mid table like a stone and go down on the last day. Bent is now out for the season. They may just be saved by the fact that this could be the season with the 5 worst teams in PL history and 35 points will keep you up, not 40.
I must admit, I wasn't too happy about the Warnock dismissal (and the public allusions to it prior to the actual sacking) but he seems pretty adamant and doesn't come across as someone who does things by halves. I'm also being drawn into DTs way of positive thinking (probably down to digging in my heels against those that seem to have already written us off). Or it could just be that Saturday's approaching and we've got the next big adventure dawning. COYRs!!!!!!
No more talk of relegation please. Twelve games to go 36 points to play for so for f--k sake get behind the team and shout your little heads off.
As far as im concerned we are down but with the positive vibes coming from the ownership we will come straight back up next season and if the next 12 months come August are as good as last season it will be worthwhile. Having said that a few miraculous results against the top 6 at the end of the season will be even better. Come on you Rs. Just think we need to keep players like Kenny, Hill, Mackie etc and stop keep a balanced side and keep changing our 11 every other week. Come xmas ill be happy singing back in the championship "Were Queens Park rangers Were top of the league"
Aside from them saying you're not in trouble if you go down am I the only one that thinks the media quoted in the OP is trying to make it out as a negative thing in terms of attitudes? I don't think having a plan in place for relegation is something a newly promoted club "admits" to having. You only make admissions of negative things. For any newly promoted club relegation is a real possibility so all your actions from day one need to be made bearing that possibility in mind. It would be more of an admission if he'd turned round and said they hadn't considered it yet and had no idea what they were going to do. Surely said would be a better word than admitted. That way it shows they've considered it, but doesn't make out that they're fearing relegation will happen. Would be more of a "if it happens we're fine, but we don't think it will because we're confident we'll turn it round and survive" rather than "we're worried it's going to happen so we've made a plan and we'll be ok", just to make it more positive whilst reporting the same thing.
