1 thing was alarming to me last night and thats how slow our tempo is. Its no wonder we cant break teams down at home. Under Sven last season we played at a decent tempo and at times teams couldnt live with us but now we seem really slow. Im not blaming Nigel for it though. The only players who tries to play at a fast tempo is Lloyd Dyer and Paul Konchesky. Last season if we gave to ball to Naughton his first instinct was the get forward with the ball asap. But Peltier never runs with it and always stops and comes inside. I would like to see him take his man on more often. Wellens everytime he touches to ball and slows play down. We arent playing to Nugent's strengths anymore and he is playing so far away from the goal. Beckford's play outside the box is pretty shocking at times. We have quick players but with our players slowing the tempo down too much we never get much chance to use their pace and the defence has had time to regain its shape. Does anyone else think that our tempo is too slow or is it just me
but if Peltier took on a man he would lose possesion- he isnt very good i dont think. Can defend OK though.
I dont think Peltier is good enough to be first choice. He is decent back up. If he was a little bit taller he would of made a decent centre half
Totally agree - We've looked pedestrian at times this season - I got the impression that our players felt their skill was enough to boss the game, but time and again teams just upped the pace and we couldn't match them
Our Tempo this season was based on 'Saul' by Handel Dum Dum Der Dum Da Da Dum Der Dum Der Dum I'm hoping for something a little more uplifting next season ... even the ******* birdy song would be an improvement
I've always thought 4-4-2 to be a rather slow formation- much rather the 4-2-3-1 thing most Premier League teams play as it allows more fluid football and full-backs getting forward. However, this would disrupt the Beckford-Nugent partnership (although I think Nugent could easily play in the support role striker, but may leave Beckford more isolated). Then again, Manchester United tend to use 4-4-2 and it doesn't seem to have slowed them down...
I think the 4231 formation is really good but we lack good enough midfielders to play it. We need people who are going to sit in and break play up. None of our players do that. Gelson Fernandes was doing it at the start of the season and he looked class but he went off the boil. Nugent doesnt contribute enough down the wing either so he is best down the middle. If Vassell or Waghorn was fit we might have a bit more success with it
