No injuries or suspensions so again Nigel has a fully fit squad to choose from. So here is what I would pick Schmeichel De Laet Moore Morgan Konchesky King Drinkwater Cambiasso Mahrez Vardy Ulloa Subs- Hamer, Wasilewski, James, Knockaert, Powell, Schlupp, Nugent
I'd go with Proud's line up other than I'd play Hammond for Kingy and Schlupp for Konchesky ... I think Jeff will need to either play left mid or at full-back because without him being there I fear for what Dyer or Routledge will do to an 'unprotected' Konch .... Hammond / Cambiasso / Drinky gives us a solid platform in the middle with terrific pace and movement up front / down the flanks ...
Thought that he was our best player on Saturday and he links up with Ulloa well as we've seen in the games they've started together. I think that it'd be a good substitution to make, but Powell needs to prove himself first.
I'd go for this. Simpson instead of De Laet will provide a bit more solidarity to what is otherwise a very positive side.
Schmeichel De Laet Morgan Moore Konchesky Mahrez Drinkwater Cambiasso Albrighton Ulloa Vardy Harsh on Nugent perhaps, who had a decent cameo against Newcastle. We need to get Mahrez back in the team as soon as possible, he's our best player right now, but his jaunts off to Algeria are really costing us right now!
Sorry but Nugent was crap. Yes he kept getting into some great postions but he looks clueless what to do, he didnt put any decent crosses in or make any decent runs with the ball. Vardy got the ball and made Janmaat look silly and just walked by him and nearly created a goal. Nugent just kept smashing hopeless balls around to no one, they either went to their defenders or off the defenders for corners I like Nugent but i don't see how he warrants a start, 1 goal all season that was a penalty, not good enough for a striker at this level. He has the same problem as Knockaert where he tries to slow down our attacks rather then make a quick pass or cross
Funny how the game can be viewed differently. I thought he looked excellent and he beat his man time and time again. He must have won about 5 corners and 3 freekicks in his cameo. Making countless opportunities when we looked otherwise clueless. He's not a goalscorer, never has been and never will. In fact, I can see him moving into midfield for the latter stages of his career. I didn't think Vardy did much at all, yes he made Janmaat look silly once, but Nugent made the left back look daft all game. I thought he was our most dynamic player and if Ulloa was going to get a chance, it would have been through Nugent. Hopefully he's brought back to his right position, in the hole behind midfield and attack. We've only ever looked decent when he's played there.
Vardy terrifies opposition defenders with his pace, Nugent got in so many positions and lacked the quality in either decision making or his final ball to make anything of them. Nugent is a very intelligent footballer but he can't play at full speed which is something you need at this level and Vardy can play at full speed. Nugent is better sitting in the hole where he will have more time on the ball to pick out his passes. He did that very well last season and created countless goals from doing that. But as a winger he isn't up to it, neither IMO is Jeff Schlupp YET. He is better coming off the bench being used as an impact sub but one thing he does offer that Knockaert and Mahrez don't is protection for Konchesky
I personally think Knockaert will be best played just behind the striker. He can't defend and loses possession too easily and in the wrong place time and time again. Please keep him as far away from our penalty area as possible
Kasper De Laet Morgan Moore Konch Drinkwater Cambiasso Vardy Nugent Schlupp Ulloa I agree that Schlupp will add more protection and Vardy has to be on the team sheet and his work rate and pace provides loads of problems. Maybe instead of Ulloa in the not-so-distant future....
On the face of it, Leicester's away form doesn't look too impressive with only 1 goal scored away from home: Chelsea 2 Leicester 0 Stoke 0 Leicester 1 Crystal Palace 2 Leicester 0 Newcastle 1 Leicester 0 However that one goal was enough to gain an impressive win at Stoke, something the Swans failed to do last week. In the other matches, a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge could probably be expected, while the Palace and Newcastle are also tough places to go - so overall not a bad start away from home. Will this continue on Saturday? I know it's an old cliché, but this is a match where the first goal really is significant. If Leicester get it, I think you have enough nous with Pearson in charge to keep the Swans out. If the Swans get it, we are due a match where we push on and score a few more goals - so it's all down to the first goal! Good luck to all the Leicester faithful travelling down, enjoy the trip, but make sure you don't go home with all three points
Should be a close fought game that im looking forward to. No game is an easy game and everyone can beat each other on the day and i see quite a few predicting an easy win for the swans but to me thats rubbish as its all on the day and who wants the 3 points the most.....safe journey to all the travellers...
I second PGF's post. Don't worry about the stats though. When we played the Toon they hadn't scored an away goal this year but put two past us
On paper the Swans midfield is scarily good. However feeling good about this one, despite predicting a poor result for us in the prediction league. Cant help thinking Hammond was far better at breaking up the opposition than a lot gave him credit for and maybe we need to go with a less attacking formation to get the goals we need. If you see what I mean.
