FI’s post about the team formation on the “Voser” thread reminded me that we have a game on Saturday. So, trying to second guess Felix (not always a good idea in the past), here’s my thoughts.

Obviously the guys at the World Cup, including new signing Adam Taggart, won’t be available. I’m also ruling out Pajtim Kasami who was on standby for the Swiss team and Kay Voser himself, as not being ready.

I do believe Felix will be concentrating on strengthening our defensive set-up but with an eye to quick breaks. And very much go the format suggest by Cookie and FI. Along with Parker as the holding/defensive midfielder. The outstanding question is whether Tunnicliffe or Zverotic gets the job of right sided wing half. I think both will feature since it’s a friendly and Felix will use most of the players he has but that the younger man will start.

Up front is more interesting in terms of choices. David will undoubtedly get the nod as the ‘creator’ in midfield and I suspect Mesca and Karca on the wings. Unless Felix reverts to playing inverted wingers there’s not really a choice on the left. On the right he has the option of Cole or Roberts.

Pat Roberts is an interesting one because most people seem to think he’s going to be an automatic choice. I’m not so sure. Not doubting his ability at all but just have a feeling that Felix will introduce him sparingly, at least to begin with. Also young Mr Roberts is likely to be off on a European trip with England later this month.

As striker there are a hatful of choices, which is quite amazing when the top transfer story is for another, in Ross McCormack. As said before Felix will play more than one during the game and indeed later on probably have two of them on the field. But to start the game, take your pick from Hugo, Trotta and Woodrow, maybe even Dembele.

My suggested line-up at the kick-off is:

    ……………….…Stockdale………….
    ……..Hoogland….Hutchinson…..Amorebietta……
    …..Tunnicliffe…………..Parker………......Richardson…..
    ..Mesca…………….David……………………….....Kaca..
    ……………………Woodrow…………

I'd be happy with that line up although I would swap Mesca for Larnell Cole, really hope Tunicliffe gets a chance this season!

Usually in pre-season games the manager changes almost the entire line up at around half time. I'd agree with most if your line up Cottager but I'd start off with

    ---------Stockdale---------------
    ---Hoogland--Burn--Amorebietta---
    Passley-----Parker------Richardson
    ----Cole-----David-------Kaca----
    -----------Woodrow--------------

And change at half time or 60 minutes to:

    ------------Joronen---------------
    ---Grimmer--Hutch--Amorebietta---
    Zverotic-----Tunnicliffe------Kavanagh
    ---Mesca----Roberts-------Plumain---
    -------------Hugo--------------

If possible bring in the likes of Dembele and G. Williams at some point towards the end too.

Actually making those teams makes me realise that we actually have a fairly decent sized squad if you include the youngsters, new additions(Voser, Taggart and probably McCormack) and world cup players.

Like that. When do you apply for Felix's job FI?

PS I'd forgotten about Freddy Plumain on the left. Watching him for the U21s the only thing that was (sometimes) lacking was the final ball. Reckon he could do really well in the Championship.

I'm always applying Cottager, and at the rate we've being going lately I might have a chance.

We actually have lots of players that can play on the wings. (Kaca, Mesca, Plumain, Richardson, Dejagah, Cole, Roberts, Ryan + George Williams)

Looks like Marcus Bettinelli is going to get the shout as cover goalie -

PS Apologies Cookie - I've reverted to the earlier thread cos it'll be really interesting to see how the team lines up against FI's prediction.

No problems Cottager totally forgot that there was an earlier thread must be the excitement of having a game.

Like I said players used will probably be high in number and won't give us an indication of Felix's thoughts but we could get a good idea of which formation he might be favouring.

Well, well, well. Kaca as the midfield enforcer then!

And who the heck is the "Trialist"? Mitroglou?

Just tried to work out a possible formation with those players and failed miserably!!!
Can only think the trial it's is a centre half and we have gone three at the back with Voser and Ryan Williams as wing backs but it could be anything

And A Trialist has two brothers on the bench -

Joronen, Hoogland, Woodrow, Tunnicliffe, Rodallega, Christiansen, Zverotic, Trialist, Trialist, Na Banga, Grimmer

[No: Richardson, Amorebieta, Cole, David, Stek or Stock]

Like you Cookie, I'm struggling to work out the playing line-up, but reckon it must be 3 at the back.

Wow that's a lot more youngsters than I had expected. By the sounds of it the trialis is a left back and we're playing 442 with:

    -------------Rodak-------------
    Voser----Hutch----Burn----Trialist
    R. Williams--Parker--Hyndman--Kaca
    ----Dembele----G. Williams----

Naming trialista as 'Trialists' is common practice. What surprises me is I can't get the names on Twitter.

Rumoured to be Adil Chihi, a 26 year old Moroccan midfielder who is currently a free agent after leaving FC Koln. Has had an injury ravaged career so far. He's a flashy player with good dribbling. He sounds way too close to Adel Taarabt for my liking.

Your strategy and quite a few of the names was correct for the second half FI. The second half team is:

    ....................Joronen....
    .......Zverotic..Hoogland.. Grimmer..
    ...Tunnicliffe..B Trialist..Christensen..
    .C Trialist..............................Mesca..
    ...........Woodrow..Rodallega...

Of course may have got the formation totally wrong - it looks an awful small back three!

Zverotic looks to be well involved in the game, a goal and an assist so far.

    Nice win:

    East Fife 0 Fulham 3

After a goalless first-half, Felix Magath made 11 changes at the break, with Elsad Zverotić putting the Whites in front in the 52nd minute, firing home after Cauley Woodrow’s shot had been saved.

Nine minutes later it was 2-0, Hugo Rodallega heading home Zverotić’s cross from three yards and Cauley Woodrow increased the lead on 71 when he collected Lasse Vigen Christensen’s ball over the top and smashed an effort in.

As the sun shone on the picturesque setting of East Fife’s Bayview Ground, Magath named a strong starting XI, including first appearances in a Fulham shirt for summer signings Shaun Hutchinson and Kay Voser. Scott Parker took the Captain’s armband.
Fulham fashioned the first opening of the game in the sixth minute as George Williams fed Alexander Kačaniklić on the overlap but the Swede’s low cross was scrambled clear by the home side’s defence.

Jamie Beaton saw a fizzing free-kick well held by Marek Rodàk in the 12th minute before a strong run by George Williams ended with him bursting through but seeing his shot saved by Dylan Rooney. In the 18th minute Ryan Williams saw a curling effort from the edge of the box held by Rooney. George Williams’ pace proved too much for the East Fife defence in the 21st minute, with Ewan Moyes hauling him down after the Welshman had raced down the left. It would have seen a yellow card in a competitive fixture.

Rodàk made a fine stop in the 25th minute, tipping over a rasping drive from Alan Walker after substitute Dylan Honeyman had robbed Hutchinson of the ball.
Fulham should have gone in front just before half-time. A trialist jinked his way into the box and found the unmarked George Williams who elected to try and take it round Rooney instead of shooting first time, allowing the keeper to save at the winger’s feet.
Magath changed his entire line-up at the break and Buomesca Tue Na Bangna dragged an early shot wide.

Fulham finally made the breakthrough in the 52nd minute. Ryan Tunnicliffe found Woodrow in the box and the striker spun his marker before hitting a left-footed shot that Allan Fleming could only parry into the path of Zverotić who slotted home the rebound. Kevin Smith almost equalised in the 58th minute, with a long-range strike parried away for a corner by a sprawling Jesse Joronen.

But it was soon 2-0 to Fulham. Woodrow did well to chest down the ball before turning and finding Zverotić on the right. The Macedonian looked up before lofting a cross into the box where Rodallega rose to nod home from a couple of yards out.
Woodrow made it 3-0 on 71 minutes. Christensen put a good ball over the top and Woodrow controlled it on his hip before smashing a shot past Fleming.
