Over the ****ing moon. I only listened to Gentleman Jim's second half (the commentary wouldn't work for the first) and a dodgy stream for the first, but sounds like we improved massively in the second half. Onwards and upwards! COYW! f1977 you're our new lucky mascot! Were you the pitch invader?
Holy f**k. We won a game. Had forgotten what that felt like. And coming back from one down. Give that man the job.
Haven’t seen a replay, so I’ve no idea how Hugo scored that goal. Belter though. What a difference it makes with a bit of confidence around - 8 chances on target in the second half against 1 in the first (and the least said about that half the better). These mostly in the final 30 minutes when we had our tails up and really we should have scored 4 or 5. As one who has been critical on many occasions about the subs made by our managers, have to say Kit got it right today. Yes, even Stafylidis! (Hyndman was way off the game for some reason). And definitely Woodrow (Ruiz I’m afraid was the one we’ve seen too often in the past; the equivalent of ‘shadow boxing’ and too many ’hospital’ passes). The player who impressed me most was Marcus Bettinelli. Apart from two top quality saves that kept us in the game, his distribution was so much improved; quicker and accurate. Obviously there are still weaknesses. However as Kit said in his press interview they are working on being more organised and with confidence will only get better. There were positive signs of that today. And with more composure in the final third the goals will come. Finally a word about our away support. They were terrific. The stream I was watching had no commentary and you could hear them loud and clear, even when we went 1-0 down. Well done them.
Interesting to hear your assessment of Ruiz. I haven't seen anything of the game yet, but on Final Score itowards the end of the first half they described him as 'running the show' and were purring over how good he was. Comments, anyone?
I only saw the first half but he wasn't anything special from what I could see. But the same could be said for much of the team in the first half.
Ruiz was no better or no worse than many others, but he did not show the sparkling form from the last two matches. Overall a much more inspired performance, glad to see Mc C coming into the centre more and not wasted and lost for pace on the wing. Agree Marcus had a good game, his distribution is excellent, shot stopping no problem, lets hope his positional performance improves with time. In the New Year we must obtain the services of a quality full back, as in that position we are still a bit do and mend Still for most of us 3 points most appreciated, "cheers lads" keep up the momentum
Wish I could go every week, Bidley! Pitch invader was an idiot, although it was pretty poor how long it took to intercept him and get him off the pitch. I expect City to get fined for that. The first half had a distinct feel of "here we go again" about it. Plenty of possession, but we did nothing with it and the best effort was McCormack's speculative 30 yard free kick. Birmingham should have been ahead before they scored, missing two clear chances and one other good chance. Credit to Kit for the half time team talk and tactical change. The second half was a huge improvement, and we deserved to win. I thought Ruiz was ok but fairly peripheral during the first half when playing on the left. Not his fault, and he looked committed to the cause when he was involved. Ironically, he became more influential after half-time playing behind McCormack & Hugo only to be taken off after we equalised. We looked like a decent side after the break, playing at a much higher tempo and with real purpose. Defensively we still look fragile, and although he scored Hoogland was given a torrid time during the first half by their winger. Burn was immense when we were defending the lead towards the end, and Amorebieta was solid but Boderov worries me. Bettinelli did well again, and Christensen was excellent in midfield. My man of the match, just ahead of LVC, was Hugo. He worked hard all game, his driving run won the corner that led to the first goal, and then he got the winner. Just a shame he didn't spare us the nervy finish by taking one of the other two chances that came his way towards the end. Let's not get carried away. We've beaten a team that will be down the bottom of the table all season. Still, that was the kind of game we were losing a month ago, so fingers crossed a corner has been turned. I'm not the most vocal of supporters, but the fans were excellent today. The highlight has to be the chant of "get the cheese out for his leg" when Parker was receiving treatment. Still making me chuckle this evening.
Nothing changes - last up on The Football League Show! In case you didn't stay up to watch it, here are the mini highlights and of course the goals -
Any idea if there will be extended highlights of the game? They're usually released around noon the day after the game but it's not on the site yet. I'm excited to watch us win a league game. I've been waiting a while.
First highlights I have seen. Great to get 2 wins in a week. Hugo finished his chance very well for the winner, not easy to retain composure in that situation. An observation from the brief highlights though, when Birmingham attacked we seemed to have our entire back 4 playing together in a 10 yard space. Where was the width from the full backs covering the wings ? Regardless of any tactical issues though brilliant to get some points on the board and shows how important wins are going to be, 3 points will get up the table. COYW
BBC's highlights are not representative of the game... We had two chances in the first half which neither was shown and more in the second..
I really feel that Saturday's result could be a watershed moment in our season. Like many, I started with high hopes - I thought Felix was a good manager, he had cleared the deadwood and the youngsters were coming through - those hopes were dashed when it appeared that Felix - despite his track record - was some form of loose German cannon and things went from bad to worse. being an eternal Fulham optimist, I was pleased when Felix was given the bullet and Kit took his place. Saturday confirmed the hints of previous games - good possesion - and came up with the missing bits - shots on target etc. Even more pleasing was the spirit to come from behind and the guts to weather the storm after we went ahead. Kit has come up with a couple of wins and hopefully will become the full time manager. The side has a balance of experience and youth. Admittedly the defence looks a little suspect, but I am sure that will improve. So the next few games are important - some wins will cement Kit in place, prevent a Pullis nightmare and raise the team's confidence. I have confidence in the boys and Kit - but as I said above - I am an eternal Fulham optimist. What do you guys think? On a different note - where have all these Leeds fans come from - don't they have enough to talk about with their madcap owner?? I think we should adopt a policy of constantly mentioning Brian Clough on any thread they start invading - I expect it will have the same effect as garlic or silver crosses on vampires.
