Hi, this is my first post on the F1 forum. My main two sports are football and F1. With football, there is a tendency to support/follow a team. As for F1, I find it slightly different. Since I watched James Hunt take the title in Japan in 1976, I've always followed the British drivers. I've noticed loads people who support Ferrari, even an ex who worked at Silverstone. I was wondering who people follow and their reasons why.

Welcome across Canarian. I think you'll find most teams/drivers have got their supporters on here, which is nice as we've got a real mix of opinions. Personally I support Lotus, Mclaren and Caterham on the teams front, and Raikkonen, Button, Bottas and Pic on the drivers side.

    Welcome canarian!
I tend to follow British drivers until they prove themselves either annoying or nothing special. I'm not afraid to have my opinions changed about drivers throughout their career and at the moment I follow Button, Hamilton and Bottas. As far as teams go I support McLaren (who are starting to annoy me) and Williams :(

I've never really loved any one set team and have mostly been about drivers for the time I've watched F1. However, since Alonso has been my favorite driver since I first started really watching F1 on my own I would say that now I find that I really like Ferrari, which is strange for me in way because I used to dislike them when Schumi drove for them. I really liked Kobayashi as well but now that he is out of the sport I don't really have another favorite. I will say though I've warmed up to Kimi a lot in the past year or so. He's just such a character in a paddock full of drivers who aren't all that interesting.

Thanks for the welcome guys, thanks DH. I must admit, I'm not a real petrol head, when you talk of technical things, I'll struggle! In my time I've followed Hunt, Watson, Mansell, Hill, Brundle, Button then Hamilton. Britain has been lucky with drivers but then we do have lots of teams in my area. Marussia is around the corner, Mercedes, Force India, Williams, (new) Lotus, and Red Bull all within less than an hour's drive away. I've tended to swap with teams, depending on the line-up. Williams with Hill and Coulthard and McLaren with Hamilton and Button are obvious choices for me. I liked Michael Schumacher in his early days until he rammed into Hill in Adelaide! However, I'd have loved to see him win a race during his comeback. Senna and Prost made for compulsive viewing but it's the British boys for me!

Hi Canarian, (and Welcome to the F1 board)

Ive been meaning to come back to this post, I think through my supporting history the team I support is aligned to a driver I like though recently it has been more split.

    In the past I liked:
    Mansell - Williams
    Hill - Williams
Hill (at Arrows) - Still wanted Williams to win
    Hill - Jordan
    Button - Williams
    Button/Alonso - Benetton
    Button - Renault
    Alonso - Renault
Alonso (at Mclaren and Ferrari) - stuck with Renault and then Lotus

I will also mention I was very much a fan of Minardi the whole way through as Ive always had a soft spot for the underdog.

I guess I supported Mansell Button and Hill because at a young age I guess you follow the Home talent. Alonso I noticed while he was driving in F3000 and I thought he looked pretty good and exciting to watch and later he went on to be a 2xWDC and a contender for many years.

Jules Bianchi is quickly moving his way into my list of driver interests too now
