It's way to early for a match thread but just thought I'd get people's early thoughts on who should start on Saturday. Will Nigel start with Ramirez? How many of the other new boy's will be involved?

We have to get at them from the start so hopefully a very attacking formation.

    What do you think?

I think Ramirez will start, I'd like to see him playing in the hole but I think he will be deployed on the wing. I'm still concerned about our current formation and the lack of cover our full-backs get from our attacking minded left and right midfielders, bearing in mind the full-backs are not our strongest position anyway I don't think we should be exposing them as much, or at least not letting our wide men avoid their defensive duties.

Several people on here are writing KD off. I'm not one of them but how many of you would start with Gazza against Villa?

Really Beef? With those three behind JayRoad, Morgan and Davis will be doing a lot of work.

I like the attacking intent, maybe we'd win 6-5

let's see the Sheff Weds game first. I'd start KD saturday against Villa unless anyone has seen Gazza (Stevenage?) and he can cope?

Having seen him for 45 mins, Ramirez must start; he oozes quality. I would suggest that Yoshida will also start if Jos struggling. The only other change for me would be find room for Corkie on the bench.

Do we still not know whether Chung has a broken arm or not?

Two votes for dropping JWP. I am surprised.

edit forgot to mention that I bumped in to Gaston Ramirez in West Quay today! with a body guard lol I wish now that I had gone up to him now and asked to shake his hand and welcomed him to Southampton!

    -----------Davis

    -Clyne-Fonte-Yoshida-fox

    -----JWP-Schneiderlin---

    -Ramirez--Lallana-Mayuka

    ---------Lambert----------

I think that's our best team although I haven't seen much of both wingers but I trust that they are improvements on Puncheon and Guly. I thought puncheon was extremely poor against arsenal but would understand if he started as Mayuka didn't have a great game against Man U whereas puncheon did.

Hope he reverts to the diamond which we used the beggining of last season.

    Davis
    Clyne-Fonte-Yosh-Fox
    Schneiderlin
    Punch-Lallana
    Ramirez
    Lambert-JayRod

This more of a hope rather than a guess, can't see it though he seems adamant on this 4-5-1

I wouldn't be dropping him. He was excellent against United, livened things up against Wigan and was possible the only one who still wanted to get on the ball against Arsenal.

That's why they would be holding mids, to help our defence out a lil. When the other team has the ball Lallana and Ramirez would drop back to help the two out. I have only dropped Prowse because I didn't really know where to put him in that formation.

He probs could go in instead of Davis, with Lambert behind the striker which I think is his best position.

I know Ramirez got back and made a tackle, but I think he'll be more in the Le Tiss style of defending than Jimmy Case! Him and Lallana would leave the other two exposed. Hey, let's try it though; it would certainly be entertaining.

Thing with the 4-2-3-1 is that the two holding midfielders protect the central defenders but the full-backs are still exposed by the attacking midfielders on the left and the right which seems to have been an issue for us conceding goals this season. Not much chance of reverting to 4-4-2 I suppose (not necessarily saying that we should).

I can't see him dropping JWP. Nigel said he has been outstanding. I think we should just go for it. If we can shut Bent up then we outscore them. 3-2, 4-3 5-4 etc.

We need to remember we have scored against all the big clubs already this season.
