This is my Rovers team of the century. Any former player who’s worn the famous blue and white quarters from 2000 to the present day is eligible. What do you think?

I reckon this team, with each player at their peak, could hold their own in the Championship. Defence is a wee bit suspect for Championship level and we also lack pace down one wing, but we’ve got a helluva strikeforce!

    Fraser Forster (GK)
    Steve Elliot (CB)
    Steve Foster (CB)
    Aaron Lescott (FB)
    Michael Smith (FB)
    Gary Penrice (MF)
    Vitalis Astafjevs (MF)
    Mark Walters (MF)
    Stuart Campbell (MF)
    Rickie Lambert (FW)
    Jason Roberts (FW)

    Subs:
    Steve Phillips (GK)
    Andy Tillson (DF)
    Andy Thomson (DF)
    Chris Lines (MF)
    Craig Disley (MF)
    Nathan Ellington (FW)
    Jamie Cureton (FW)

I wouldn't put Penrice in there because during that spell at the club he was past his best and serving as Holloway's assistant manager. I'm surprised also that there's no room for Hoskins - I'd maybe have him instead of the Duke.

I agree with the rest though!

    Starting 11 in a 433 formation:
    Steve Mildenhall

    Michael Smith
    Andy Tillson
    Steve Elliott
    Daniel Jones

    Craig Disley
    Stuart Campbell
    Vitalijs Astafjevs

    Jason Roberts
    Rickie Lambert
    Jamie Cureton

    Subs:
    Mikkel Andersen
    Danny Woodards
    Craig Hinton
    Chris Lines
    Sammy Igoe
    Mustapha Carayol
    Richard Walker

I wouldnt argue with Baldee's team or with AMOT's changes. But I have gone for some different players who I feel deserves a mention and I would be happy to have them in my squad of 18.

433 shows a lack of width but both Smith and Jones liked to get forward a lot anyway and Campbell would sit back and support the defence for cover. Disley would be the box to box midfielder, supporting Campbell in the defensive duties also getting forward and supporting the forwards scoring goals. Astafjevs would be the playmaker making things happen in the middle.
The defence speaks for itself and I think Mildenhall has proved to be one of the best keepers for our club. Lambert up front will come deep when needed and play just behind the Cureton and Roberts who had a great playing relationship together scoring for fun.

Subs, I would put Andersen before Phillips and Forster. Woodards can play both full back positions so covers these positions and I would put him ahead of Lescott. Hinton covers the CB's role. Lines never really impressed me but he managed to score goals and was good at set pieces. Igoe and Carayol for the wings if need to drop to a 442. Walker in his prime was outstanding. Without his goals we wouldnt have got promoted. Hoskins, we were relegated when he was with us. Without his goals we would have went down anyway. So for me Walker pips Hoskins.

Former players only? I know you said former players but you also said to the present day so I took that as current players too as you cant have former players in the present day ;)

If I cant have Mildenhall, then I would put Andersen in the starting 11 and promote Forster on to the bench <ok>

Purely on the basis that we seen far more of Andersen than we did with Forster :)

    But he's an England keeper!

Right, I'm on my iPhone whilst trying to put kids to bed - I will return to discuss this further!

Yes and?? England are not really blessed with keepers are we, if we are honest. Im not saying he isnt good. He is a good keeper. But he only played a handful of games for us. About 4 or 5 I think. Andersen played over 50 times for us. I seen far more potential in Andersen over Forster and Andersen is a Danish international too :)

Regardless of how many times we saw him, I still think that Forster is a far better keeper than Andersen. Fraser is an England international whilst Mikkel has only played for the Danish Under 21s.

But I'm persuaded by your Richard Walker argument - he was truly fantastic for us and those goals against Shrewsbury will live in my mind forever. But Sammy Igoe on the wing? Those tiny little legs! <laugh>

Right, I have checked, Forster has played just 4 games for us.

How can you pick a player to be in our team of the CENTURY - a 14 year period - who has only just played 4 games for us!! <laugh>

Any player who has put on the quarters, even once, since 2000 - my thread, my rules!

In which case I've also omitted Bobby Zamora and Scott Sinclair - that gives us extra pace out wide and even more of a presence up front - this team is shaping up to be awesome!
