Ok, I'm off for a few days, I can see a few gasheads over the hill creaming their pants now, see you.
I think it's a bit early to push the panic button just yet but we really should have had at least ONE defender through the door by now
Bath City wanted it more and to be fair knocked the ball around well in the 2nd half. They played as a team to a system they understood and as I said, the longer the game went on the better they looked - The absolute opposite to our lot, we played like strangers.
Very true wiz, if I'm honest then this situation we find ourselves in is crazy. Why didn't we transfer list some the deadwood at the end of last season? Or did we? Anyone?
'transfer list some the deadwood' Sure Millen would have made it known that the likes of Hunt, LJ, Stewart,Nyatanga etc etc were available. But come on which team in the lower divisions are going to match the money this lot are on. Hence they'll stick around until their contracts are up.
Yeah I understand that RP but I think it may have been better to agree some sort of settlement with them and ship them out and cut our losses. Our squad is bloated and I can't see the benefits of having several League One quality players mooching around the place for no reason other than to pick up their fat wage packets.
It's wierd,a load of players we've got don't want to leave us and all the quality players we try to sign seem to go elsewhere.. Does that make us a good club or a bad one or just plain stupid.....?
ouch. bad result and poor performance to add to it. not looking good guys. some on here still say its only pre-season! however some are now beginning to worry. and rightly so. i would as well. positive though is that this cant be your 1st team.
Neither I think wiz, we're are in a bit of a rut at the moment though and we need to work through this problem we have. It's going to take time I fear, I'm not expecting too much this season but I'm comfortable with that.
'I think it may have been better to agree some sort of settlement with them and ship them out' Natch, so do I. We paid 50% of Gav's wage at Yeovil and wouldn't be surprised if LJ ends up there on a similar agreement. Saying that I can't imagine Yeovil affording £3grand a week for LJ and Hunt is on even more!!! Suppose the other option is to buy them out but can't see them agreeing a compromise amount. It's a real problem.
Couldn't agree more RP, it is a real problem. The more I think about this, the more I think it might not be such a bad idea to sell Maynard and consolidate some of our debts in order to move forward. Contraversial I know but I'm at a loss to see any other way around this.
Some observations....we've bought out the contract of Coles...some say 6 figures. Now you won't like this but if SL really wants to move you forward he could buy them out with his small change. Also......about 580 there tonight; 1200 for our game ?? I know that as fans we can sometimes defend our team rather than lose face, but I think that Millen, nice man though he may be, is not a Championship manager. You've got tough early matches against Cardiff and Leicester. Your board should act now.
Its sad, one half of Bristol is winning games and beating top half championship quality, whilst the other half is losing to a second string Bath City side. I mean, they fielded a half dead scot and you still lost
I reckon SL is fully aware of what needs to happen '49 which is why I believe that he's holding back proper investment until our stadium plans are ratified. He said that he's not prepared to keep throwing money at it and I've no problem with that, didn't get the likes of Cardiff or Forest anywhere... As for the crowd, well Bath City are a bigger draw for your fans than ours so no surprise there really. And Millen deserves a chance to show what he can do but as I'm sure you're aware, his hands are rather tied at the moment.
Fisrt time I've EVER posted on your board - and I've not come here to gloat. I'd just like to mention there seems to be a pattern developing here just like we had at the beggining of last season with us. A manager who clearly hasn't got the motivational skills to bind the dressing room and a playing squad which clearly has players who are over paid and not willing to put in a decent stint on the field. Over the top wages means no-one wants to leave and no other team can afford them and hence any idea of top players coming in to lift the side is unrealistic, as they look at the quality of your players you have and know that it would take a big turn around if you were to challenge for a top spot. Also, and no disrespect to Mr Millen, I don't think he can sell the club to top players as he just doesn't inspire people (aka PT). Having listened to PB's interviews since he has been with us, I do think that he instills a confidence and asertivness in all the things he talks about - this reflects to the players and staff, and surely this has reflected in our start to the pre season games. Like someone mentioned above it was time to clear out the dead wood and try something new, but obviously it is too late now. NM not signing his new contract can only mean one thing - he is not confident that he can go any further with you, so he will either be sold now or in the new year. At least if the worst happens to you and you replicate our last season you can take faith in knowing that it can be turnt around in a short summer as we have managed - if you get the right people in! And we both know how hard it is to find those - both on and off the pitch. I of course am assuming that our pre season form with carry on when we start our league programme .... but only time will tell! Thanks for putting up with a Sag on your board!
Im not to concerned by last nights result on paper we fielded a reserve/youth team. the team vs cheltenham was more like the starting 11 I think the games against yeovil on saturday and west brom will be the 2 where our stronger players are involved forest green next tuesday will probably be fringe players. Also expect 2 prem defenders to arrive on loan for the season
