What do you expect would be our strongest starting 11 for next season ? Reina Johnson Carra Agger Aurelio Kuyt Gerrard Adam Downing Suarez Carroll ... with players like Henderson, Aqualani, Mereiles & Maxi to come off the bench. Still think we need a left-back - someone like Enrique
Think Lucas will start we need a DM in the modern game. I forgot about Lucas ( so many midfielders these days )
I'm thinking something like: ----------Reina------------- Kelly-Carra-Agger-Johnson -----Lucas-----Adam------- Suarez--Gerrard--Downing -----------Carroll----------- Hopefully, we will sign a left-back before the season starts and I'd switch Johnson back to RB and we'd have a bench which would include Doni, Kelly, Skrtel, Hendo, Aqua and Kuyt to name a few.

Alot of people have mentioned a 4.3.3 system which I reckon could suit the players we have. But you can never tell what kind of system Kenny will play - suppose it depends on the opposition. However , It's good to see that we have enough decent squad players at last. If we can get off to a good start to the season it could be a good one !

looking from this tour bench has more midfielders than ther is spaces let alone subs ? is this a serious concern for your side atm , harmony could be affected with issues like this.
Maybe ahead of Maxi as Cole can play left side of midfield. I've picked Cole over Maxi on the bench so he can get his chances. If after say 15 games he iasn't up to it then i'd sell him in January at a knock down price and stick Maxi on the bench for league games
Without knowing our best 11 , we now have so many options in midfield and attack. If we can play like we did towards the end of last season (3rd in form table) and if our new players settle in quickly, I think we will challenge for the top spots once again.
honeslty guys..... I thin kthe 3 at the back idea is coming up purely because we've a glut of midfielders. I don't think we can play without full backs so converting a downing or henderson etc into one is not a good plan. we only played 3-5-2 last year as we were shy of players everywhere bar CB and the minute our left side options dried up though injury we reverted to 4 at the back. Kenny played full backs advanced then. No I think no matter which way you slice this pie a 4 at the back is as much as we can say for now. we've so many CBs as well its not funny. so many kids.... I'm not a fan of forcing a right back into left back so I'm still hopeful to see a left full come in. In truth if we play the formation we have done in two very early preseason games v sunderland then ANYONE from 8 could play in the bank of 3 behind carroll. (cole, aquilani, downing, kuyt, suarez, gerrard, maxi, meireles) I really don't know who'll gel best together right now. One would assume suarez and gerrard will be the main men so in theory it's downing all ends up having signed him.... but we might just be shocked if aquilani or meireles put in great shows of form.

I would be a bit worried about your CM triangle of meireles/adam/aqua. This is far too weak defensively esp with suarez and gerrard out wide who will both disappear out of position.
In Commolli's recent comments on our signings he said something along the lines of 'whether Kenny wants to play 433 or 442...' So my thoughts are those are the two main options. Bozz your team is a bit Football Manager i'm afraid, trying to shoe horn the players you like into a formation that just wouldn't work. Buying Downing and Henderson for not too far off a total of £40mil and playing them as wingbacks, as well as 2 attacking midfielders is bizarre! Also with Kelly not yet having played any time at centreback i don't see him playing there this season. I think Lucas will play a few less home games this seasonwhich could pave the way for an Adam, Gerrard, Aqua midfield. Don't see where Raul fits in really, unless Kenny plans on using him and Gerrard on the right wing a bit.

teriffic, i'd be worred too lol... but it does shoe horn in the talents like i said. (also into the fomration we've seen in very early action) the other comment about gerrard "wide right" bieng ridiculous is kind of interesting as one could claim mr gerrard's best year was out there under rafa, add that to the fact his legs are suspect... oh and as terrific said he'll not defend. The question must be is it the best way to go or the way to fit everyone in? I personally would have thought that Raaul's post of 4-3-3 is a good shout but i am really wondering still about which formation. bascially if i gave a couple of bullet points. 1. aquilani on the basis of 2 45min spell agasint weak opposition looked really good. If eh continues that to the start of the year i'd like to see more of him. I could equate him to VDV. 2. meireles for me must be considered as a box to box midfielder here... he could play with adam but would it work? I don't see meireles as an attacking player purely. 3. gerrard is not going to play CM cos he's not got the fitness nor disipline any more, too indulged for too long. 4. do we buy downing to bench him or play him? if to play him then kuyt has to be the one to be dropped. 5. Is lucas really that hot comapred to the others as a DCM? 6. interesting to see that no matter if skertl played all league games not one person put him in thier side.
Have to agree with Bozz. That has the makings of a great team. Lucas will cover the defense / bolster the midfield and Downing and Henderson have the fitness/engine to attack and help out defensively, leaving Gerrard and Adam free to create something through the middle for Carroll / Suarez. Also liking the balance with two natural left footers on the left side (Adam LCM, Downing LM). Just need a decent left-footed left-back and we've got a superb left side. We then have the bench to replace industry with industry (Hendo/Kuyt), creativity with creativity (Adam/Aquaman, Gerrard/Meireles) and steel with steel (Skrtel/Agger/Carra). Kuyt could also play striker with suarez, should he need to. And Johnson could go on right wing or play right back. The possible combos are huge. I keep saying it, but roll on next season. Can't wait.
