Hardly a clamour and certainly not one for him. I and one other poster just mentioned his name. But CP did say that he "would have a part to play" before the season ends, though recurrent fitness problems may by now have put that idea out of his mind.

I think CP said at the recent Bromley Addicks event that it was unlikely that Alonso would wear a Charlton shirt again. I don't think Dartford constitutes a real appearance.

That could be taken two ways.

    (1) That he cannot see him winning a place over other contenders like Hughes and Pritchard, but if we had a freak set of injuries and suspensions and had run out of midfielders, then, if Alonso is fit, he might play.

    or

    (2) That he has washed his hands of him and in an emergency would rather play someone else out of position, or a youngster like Cousins. But in that case why not pay him up and get him off the club premises altogether. Having a "pariah" around the place cannot be a good thing.

I wasn't there Eddie but I remember reading something by way of a report that suggested there was a hint of "I didn't sign him" about CPs comments. Maybe totally inaccurate - as I say this was second or even third hand so the story may have grown in the telling. But I wouldn't be surprised.
