Bristol City are favourites to sign England Under-19 defender Taylor Moore from French second tier club RC Lens. In the market for a right-sided centre-back to provide cover and competition for Aden Flint, the Robins are targeting the talented 19-year-old, who moved to France at the age of seven. Spotted playing on the Continent by the Championship club's chief scout, Des Taylor, the former West Ham Academy youngster looks to be on his way to Ashton Gate ahead of next week's August 31 transfer deadline. There has already been contact between City officials and Lens, who are prepared to sell the Englishman to help balance their books following relegation from the French top flight 15 months ago. please log in to view this image Taylor Moore in action for England Under-19s against France this summer. City loan signing Tammy Abraham is also in shot. Capped by England at Under-17, Under-18 and Under-19 levels, the Walthamstow-born defender made nine appearances for Lens in the French Second Division last season. City are eager to invest in the teenager's future and sources in France suggest he is set to move to Ashton Gate in this transfer window. Tottenham, West Ham, Crystal Palace and Southampton all sent scouts to watch him play for England in this summer's UEFA Under-19 Championships in Germany, where Moore played in the same team as City loan signing Tammy Abraham. A fluent French speaker, he has spent six seasons on the staff at Lens and is now ready to follow in the footsteps of Tottenham's Eric Dier, who played for Sporting Club in Portugal as a youngster before returning to his native England. http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/lens-a...bristol-city/story-29649494-detail/story.html
Sounds like one for the future. Interesting he only made 9 appearances for his French club - and I can't believe the French second tier is as good a standard as the Championship, so why only play him 9 times? Must be reasonable to get into the England setup though....
According to the ever-reliable source of Wikipedia, 4 games in Ligue 1, 5 in Ligue 2. At just 19 years old, I wouldn't read too much into appearances as a guide to his ability. I'd also avoid using the standard of the League. Plenty of pretty damned talented players have come out of it, including our own Jonathan Kodjia. I know nothing about him, so can't really comment - only to say that his involvement in England youth teams is encouraging.

This is exciting - from being a club that signed ****e journeymen looking for a final payday, we're suddenly attracting good young talent. There's a danger that fielding a bunch of youngsters too soon could put us in the mire but the flip side is that having youth and energy, with a mixture of more seasoned pro, could yield a really exciting team. I remember growing up when El Tel was at Palace and his team was chock full of exciting, fast youngsters and they were brilliant to watch. Leeds did it for a while as well and it was great to see. Maybe, just maybe, this is truly the new dawn that we've craved for so long??
youngsters home grown when teams like Man utd had a squad of players from 5 countries all in or attached to THE UK were the success stories..
