We love to speculate about how many points we need etc for survival but let us go back to our first year (In recent times) under PL and the basis for staying up and the platform was beating our fellow promoted sides home and away (QPR and Swansea) This weekend's game at Waford is IMO massive. IF, we could beat Waford home and way and then Bournemouth away that is an extra 9 points. Add Villa home and way and Sunderland and Newcastle at home and that is a further 21 points in total making 33. We are very much in the fight and looking decent. This weekend is a great start for that run and a massive fixture. Comments please.
Other than the Newcastle result, we've looked pretty good against the teams around us. Beating Sunderland, Bournmeouth and Swansea so far has given us a good platform to work off of. I'm hoping for a really convincing display against Watford, and can see us getting closer to the style of play we showed in the opening weeks. Just gotta keep Deeney and Igahlo quiet.
My target at the beginning was at least a point a game so at least 38 points by the end. We're one point behind that at the moment and given that our performances have been better than our results so far I think 40+ points looks reasonable now. A win at Watford, who are not really a strong home team, could make a huge difference to our season, as Thurnby says. We need to keep in touch with the teams just above us and this could be a good chance to close the gap.
As above Saturday is a big game for us - a win pulls us close to Watford and could take us above Swansea and further away from the bottom four whereas a loss could see us right down among the dead men with Man U and Spurs to come. Clearly the Villa game is also massive.
i assume you are a devotee of fantasy football. We are winning all these matches only in the most fanatical mind.
It is speculation but also a good conversation point don't you think. It was an illustration of the possible though I agree it would be unlikely that we would win all of the games quoted. Cheers for the dampener!
Those are certainly the 6-pointers Thurnby, so the points at stake are worth highlighting, but I think AN has made us into a team that's hard to beat, so there will be points available elsewhere. I'm hoping we can put together an unbeaten run over several games, perhaps starting with Villa.
I'd be happy with a draw today tbh And Bennett actually killing someone rather than almost doing so. We don't need half measures. Got to give Wenger something to really moan about.
Exactly Rick. My basic point was that if we won the 6 pointers then there would be little requiement remaining and we would be totally confident of picking the points up. The defeat yeserday adds another game to the additional column, a home win to Everton would replace those points.
Maybe a tad harsh Rob, but what a stupid comment by Wenger! I was praising him in a recent thread so I suppose I must take some responsibility
Erm, Rick you being serious ? Hard to beat ? 1 win in 10 and all of a sudden you think we can go on a 'unbeaten run' ? No offence mate but I see no reason whatsover to believe we can go 2 games without losing ! We're going down so we had all better get used to the fact, other than Villa (perhaps) we're the worst side in the division by a country mile. Not only that AN has now destroyed our footballing ethos with those 'tactics' (I use the term loosely) on Saturday please log in to view this image
In fairness, I was referring to the 4 games previous to Watford, where we did make it difficult for top teams like ManCity, Chelsea and Arsenal, as well as winning against Swansea. Four points from those games was a good result. Watford was very disappointing, to say the least, and a big step backwards and although it has dented my confidence a bit, I'm not ready to throw in the towel yet with not even half the season gone. My cup is still almost half full, even though some slopped over against Watford. It's a 6 team relegation battle now and Everton will be a big test.
Phew, no need to worry after all http://www.express.co.uk/pictures/g...ier-League-table-2015-16-sportgalleries/85198
Sorry, but I don't get it? It says play slideshow, but every screen tells me we're 16th after 19 games with 31 points? Maybe my browser is playing up? - congrats to KIO, our resident (closet) Daily Express reader
.........and I'm fed up hearing soundbites like this from Norman, I want players here who will sweat blood for my beloved Canaries. How can he be up for a relegation dog fight with us when all he keeps banging on about is playing for Liverpool ? "My future is definitely back at Liverpool because that is my dream and that is what I want to achieve," http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/liverpool-...opp-over-his-long-term-future-anfield-1532080 send him back and put Rusty back in at RB
I would hope our players out on loan would say the same about their own future. It hasn't prevented him from putting in good performances even against Watford, where he and Rudd were our best performers, IMO (not that it's saying very much).
So is it fair to say that your cup is after the loss is now about 7/16 full? We need a win soon or we'll all be supping on our full dregs! Bah!
