This weekend we woke up to headlines in the Sunday papers about a Indian Businessman planning a 200m plus offer for Newcastle United. Anil Ambani is the man said to be interested in buying the club. Ambani is the head of the large Reliance ADA group and he is one of Asia's richest businessman with a estimated worth of around $8.8b. He was previously linked with buying the club back in 2008 after our relegation.

Is this good news for the club? Is the feeling amongst fans that we are better off without MIke Ashley regardless of who comes in to replace him. We know very little about Mr Ambani however he is a top businessman, but the same can be said about Mr Ashley. If Ambani turned out to be a Geordie Abramovich then I am sure we will have questions about his background or if he actually is follower of footballor even a Newcastle fan. If Ambani was to purchase United then we would become the second English premier league club to have Indian owners following the venki families purchase of Blackburn.

Other than the obvious benefit of being rid of Mike Ashley and having a mega rich owner there are numerous other benefits this could bring to the club. With the new financial regulations that are set to be introduced next season which restricts clubs to operating without the generated revenue, being able to tap into the massive Indian market could greatly increase our revenue and give us more room to operate. Indian has a population of around 1.18 billion people with Ambani's business knowledge Newcastle could become the team for Indian fans to follow - the potential growth seems limitless.

He's prepared to pay twice the old going rate now that the club is back in the top tier and has essentially secured it's league status?

If the going gets tough then this guy sounds about as useful as a chocolate teapot.

  4. I want us to get a decent owner, or an owner that'll just give us money and let the manager do all the work.

I hate Mike Ashley and he's a **** owner, but i don't want some ****ing indians taking over the club either.

I don't want us to buy mercenaries again and I think with the amount of money he has (if of course he put it into the club) then this would happen. Don't get me wrong I want World Class players playing for us, but I want them playing for us because they want to, not for the outrageous oay packet we would be offering them.

What i'm basically saying that if he put us on as a shrewd business plan, much like Mike Ashley has done (although not all of his decision have been for the right reason) then I am all for the takeover, unfortunately I think it would turn out like Blackburn have and sacking a manager to replace him with a manager who hasn't much experience (then again not much between that and Hughton/Pardew for us)

Not sure if I want new owners. What we need is stability, which is sort of happening now.If the indians come in and get rid of pards, who has been doing an alright job,it will distablise the club. Also we have a decent scouting network after young talent.
What if the indians go after golden oldies.i.e Veckies after Ronaldhino.

The Venkys just used the Ronaldhinio thing as a a cheap publicity stunt to raise awareness of their new business.

With the new financial restrictions coming into play, having a mega-rich owner wont be much of a help - I think that if Ashley & Llambias can keep their stupid fat mouths shut and generally steer completely clear of interfering with footballing matters, then Pardew will do a decent enough job long-term. I just worry that the ego of Llambias is starting to really enjoy the spotlight...:emoticon-0112-wonde

If it happens, then it has to be for the right reasons. I have always thought the problem with mike ashley was that he bought the club to make it a profitable business, trying to cover it up with the shirt donning beer swilling antics that followed (thankfully stopped now)

If we got new owners then i would pray they were savvy enough to run the club in the proper way: i.e trying to balance the books while allowing the manager to put his stamp on the team in terms of personnel, and yes, occaisionally looking at releasing transfer funds as a way of making the club profitable (the higher in the league you finish, the more cash in your coffers)

I, like all of us, have had some extremely nasty words for fat Mike over the years but no-one can deny that we are one of the most financially stable clubs in the country at the moment, I just wish he would go about things in a more dignified and football minded manner and occaisionally take a risk or two in terms of giving up a bit of wad to the manager, and if we do get taken over the new men would have to first and foremost realise just how much this club means to all of us, and manage it in the right way. If that were to happen (and it's a rather large if) I would be a very happy man indeed HTL

I'm happy on the path that we're currently on (providing we get money to spend on young talent in the summer). I could see a takeover disrupting that and don't wish to end up like Man City. I like the new policy that we have adopted and want to see players that want to play for the club, not the pay packet at the end of the week.

If a new owner comes in, then I want them to stick with the model we currently have. Instead of throwing cash at Pardew, I want any prospective owner to throw cash into building a first class scouting network.

Hell yes to a new owner! While I appreciate Mike Ashley has somewhat steadied the ship financially and we seem to have a good structure in place (although there are those that argue it's a smokescreen for his own money saving purposes) he's done some unbelievable and unforgiveable damage during his time, is far too coy and the lack of communication with us is the most frustrating thing, as well as the fact no matter what he does I doubt we will ever fully trust him. No matter what happens with the team we're always going to be on edge over his next decision.

The Ambani's are NO VENKY'S! The Venky's are small time compared to this guy and his company, Ambani is more like the Indian equivalent to Abramovich and I'm sorry I'd take that over Mike Ashley any day of the week. The Venky's are like headless chickens (no pun intended) with Blackburn and genuinely seem to have no clue why they even bought the club. Ambani is a very very shrewd businessman who will look to bring some instant success to the club to raise it's profile globally, not just in India.

I agree about the team spirit not wanting the team spirit broken but would you honestly turn down success to remain a mid-table club with a tremendous team spirit? Or have a mega-rich owner finance the rise and success of our team while also potentially maintaining that team spirit along with the likes of Tiote, Enrique, Barton and Ben Arfa. It really is a no-brainer to me and if anyone doesn't want it because of the Indians that bought Blackburn, Google Anil Ambani and you'll see how much better he would be.
