SoD said on Radio Bristol yesterday that he thought we did a good job of stopping Peterborough from playing their normal game. Marlon Pack (who I thought had a decent game) sat in front of the back 4 - I assume this was an attempt to nullify Tomlin? We then played a very narrow 3 in midfield - in other words a 4-1-3-2 system. This meant that we lacked quite a bit of width and we did not get young Bobby on the ball enough in the last third of the pitch. I think SoD is excellent tactically, but I think we would have been better off playing our diamond - this would have got Reid further up the pitch and given us width. We lost 3-0 - I know hindsight is 20-20 vision, but it just felt wrong (even after 5-10 minutes). That said I guess the goals were a keeping error, a world class strike and the last one poor defending
There's the problem.. it's too congested in the middle.. when packs on the ball in a deep area he has no options but to pass it back.. If wagstaff and bryan hugged those touchlines there would be options and space, and when once space opens so does another..
A Donny fan did say SOD worries to much about the other team than he does his own. Perhaps he should stop worrying about their threats and concentrate on our own. Need width, We've somewhat got the players to play it so use it SOD
I also said the same thing, I was told this by a Forest fan in work who said if he concentrated on beating the other team rather than preventing them playing he would still be there. We didn't do a good job preventing Posh playing as they scored 3 and had a penalty saved. They did show us how to counter attack. Ferguson Snr always played the same that's why Man U scored late. They sat back and drew you in then bang out to Gigg's Ronaldo Sharp whoever take them on at speed and counter attack the team completely. I suspect now the old man has retired he's paying a bit of interest in his sons teams with tips thrown in for free. I don't want any other manager than SoD, but I want to see us playing wide especially at home where we have a wide pitch compared to others. Tell JET he can play in a hole when it's 0-0 but when we go behind to play as a team. I'm not impressed with Cunningham this season and that's because I suspect he's being restricted in going forward. Nothing against him but we need him like last season bursting forwards.
