Are you saying there's a chant at Swansea which is the same tune and similar lyrics? How does that go? I have to say, that's an amazing chant.
i hope i havent bitten on a wum's bait but, it's not just a chant....it's a sacred song by Roger Evans released in 1979 called "Swansea City". It has had several lyric changes/covers over the years, but this is the original with backing vocals from the team (including our current coach Alan Curtis, the late, great Robbie James amongst others).... Thats why it feels so wrong to here another team sing it/bastardize it .......flattering i suppose though cos it is class!
Loving that. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and all that! When I was younger I went around Australia for about a year and took my Swans top with me. On several occasions I was asked by Brits as well as Aussies if we had any songs...and I would sing them this. No-one had ever heard of it (including the Brits). I get a kick out of seeing hundreds/thousands of Aussies singing it at a Sydney game all these years after. I wonder why they latched on to our song?
Ah....fond memories. I lived in Sydney for three years in the 90's and took citizenship. Wonderful place, wonderful country. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
Sydney are not the only ones to pinch an other teams song. hi Musty have you heard the Aussie one they sing when they are winning, its almost the same as our welsh song ugo ugo ugo ugo hoy hoy hoy don't know if Iv spelt it right the aussie one is aussie hoy hoy.hoy
yes they are, no clue what our side is called, good excuse for a weekend away though even though I cant go to the Cross (KJ will know what I am talking about). and lauds, the aussie aussie aussie oi,oi,oi, oh dear me
I assure you I have no intention of WUMing, but while I'm not generally a fan of most football songs (they can be a bit cheesy) I think that one's actually rather good.
It's a great chant as well and brilliantly original. Much more so than "And it's Swansea/Portsmouth/Manchester/Gloucester City, Swansea/Portsmouth/Manchester/Gloucester City FC, they're by far the greatest city...." Do you still chant it at the Liberty? Might have to borrow it for use at Fratton Park. "We all stand at Fratton...."
