    Wright-Phillips conundrum for Redknapp
    9 Jan 2014 10:21

QPR boss says winger's wages are pricing him out of a move

Harry Redknapp admits QPR are struggling to offload Shaun Wright-Phillips as no Championship clubs can afford to pay his wages.

The former Chelsea and Manchester City winger has featured just 11 times this season, with the arrival of Matt Phillips forcing him further down the Loftus Road pecking order.

Redknapp wants to get high-earners Julio Cesar and Wright-Phillips off the wage bill to free up funds for signings.

But he admits only Premier League clubs have the financial clout to take the 32-year-old.

Redknapp said: “It’s difficult. It’s only Premier League clubs who could afford to take him on his wages.

“Other clubs aren’t going to put up that type of money. There isn’t big money in this league wages-wise.

“If any of them want to take a thousand-per-cent drop in wages or something, they can, but you don’t see too many doing that."

I reckon Harry has been told to shift a couple on before getting anyone else decent in.

Stuck with him I'm afraid. No Premiership club would want a player that can't even get a game in the Championship. Always knew this was a terrible signing. If Tango and Cash had sanctioned the signing of Routledge, we would have got a far better player and not be stuck now with one of the most over-rated players in modern history.

There's no conundrum, get rid of him for a used tracksuit top if possible.

Yes, and we could have paid him half the wages probably.

Does anyone know how long there is left on his contract? If he is hardly ever going to play for us you can't help thinking that getting at least some rebate on his wages has to preferable to nothing at all.

I think he's gone this summer or at worst next summer.
Most of our squad are out of contract in five months.

I heard that Charlie and the Chocolate factory the musical is on at Drury lane and they are short of oompa loompa's - maybe we can do a deal....
