Was a helluva player. Sky Sports sources understand that Swansea have appointed Michael Laudrup as their new manager. A number of names have been linked with the role since Brendan Rodgers left to take charge of Liverpool a fortnight ago. Chairman Huw Jenkins made it clear that he wanted to move quickly to get a new man on board, and Laudrup is now understood to have been handed the reins. One of Jenkins' main goals was to identify somebody who could build on Rodgers' good work and take the club forward with the same ethos. Laudrup certainly shares the footballing philosophy that was evident in Swansea's maiden Premier League campaign, having been influenced by Johan Cruyff. Opportunity The 48-year-old spent time with Barcelona and Real Madrid during his playing career and was regarded as one of the finest talents of his generation. Since moving into management, he has spent time at the helm of Brondby, Getafe, Spartak Moscow and Mallorca. Laudrup will now have the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League and will hope to maintain the considerable progress Swansea have made over the past few years. The Swans comfortably stayed up last term as they finished 11th, while they also earned rave reviews for playing a vibrant style of football.
Either a master stroke or Relegation I reckon. Think players will wanna play for him and could help them bring players in.
He was unbelievable for Getafe, getting a tiny club from the outskirts of Madrid into Europe, and only missing the Europa final via an extra time goal vs Bayern. They played smashing football, shirt sharp passing, a little bit quicker than Swansea moving forward though. I think he will be an excellent appointment for them, he will get working with the existing players, and should be a big enough name to draw in some new talent. Interested to watch them.
Remember Getafe under him beat Real Madrid and Barcelona. Could have been a good appoitnment for us in darker days.
He sounds like one of those managers that needs a specific team to do well, one that fits together like a jigsaw under his command, otherwise it doesn't do as well as fans had hoped.
Apparently his first move is for Bendtner - but you know what the papers are like - just wondering though, how did you rate him last season? As someone with very little knowledge of the guy i personally see him as just one overrated ego who will demand high wages. Please tell me im wrong..
He's actually a very good player, but his positional play is woeful for a striker. He's a good link man, and he's a canny finisher, but he's never on the end of crosses! You have Graham, who does most of the above, but will also get a few goals and assists, seems a pointless move, but with Laudrup being a Danish legend, he may get the best out of Bendtner. Clear as mud, eh?
