Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 14 December 2024 Kick off - 3pm Following their hard fought 2-1 away win at Plymouth on Tuesday evening, next up for Luke Williams’ improving Swansea squad is a tough looking home match against automatic promotion hopefuls Sunderland. On Tuesday evening, the Swans ended Plymouth's six-match unbeaten home run with a 2-1 win as Wayne Rooney's side slipped to 23rd in the Championship. The Swans took a 44th-minute lead through Jay Fulton following Josh Tymon's cross from the left, with Liam Cullen doubling their lead on the hour. Mustapha Bundu pulled one back but Argyle were left looking up at all bar Hull in the table. The mood was much brighter for the Swans, who rose to ninth in the table having become only the second visiting team to win at Plymouth this season. Whilst the Swans were beating the Pilgrims, Patrick Roberts preserved Sunderland's unbeaten home record with an equaliser deep in added time to thwart a determined Bristol City. The Robins led through centre-back Luke McNally's goal, the big Irishman capping a terrific display by capitalising on some farcical defending by the Black Cats. The visitors had responded well to their dismal defeat at Portsmouth on Saturday and blunted a Sunderland side that laboured to break them down until Roberts and fellow substitute Adil Aouchiche opened them up late on. The draw means that Regis Le Bris' Sunderland team have now won just once in eight games, as their excellent start to the season continues to flag. Despite the draw, Sunderland are in 4th place in the table, 4 points adrift of Leeds who sit in the second automatic promotion spot. Since their first match in 1937, the Swans have played Sunderland on 38 occasions, with both sides winning 13 games and drawn 12. In the corresponding match last season, the teams played out a goalless draw, with the Swans having Charlie Patino rather harshly sent off by the infamous Bobby Madley: Turning to tomorrow, if the Swans are to mount a charge to the Play-Offs, then this is the type of match they need to win. Given the Swans improved form, and recognising that Sunderland’s form has slipped lately, I’m hopeful that the Swans can run out 2-1 winners
Agree Taff, we can certainly win this. That's if the defence don't come out wearing Santa hats, of course. I'll say 3 - 2 with us hanging on at the end
Eom on the bench. To be fair he's looked a bit off the pace but I'd still have him on instead of Peart-Harris.
We're good for the half time lead but I'd be amazed if there aren't more goals second half. Let's hope we can score again.
This Sunderland team are there for the taking, we just need to deal with their high pressing when bringing the ball out from the back better....
The last thing we need is to gift them a goal. They also look good on the break when we lose possession too easily.
The way this second half is going, the next goal's going to be an equaliser. When we do break, it's either losing the ball too easily or back to the goalie.
