Swansea v Morecambe Competition - FA Cup Venue - Swansea.com Stadium Date - 6 January 2024 Kick off - 5:30pm Following their battling 1-0 home win over Play-Off chasing West Brom, which was the last match under caretaker Alan Sheehan, next up for the Swans is a 3rd Round FA Cup tie against Morecambe a game that will be new Head Coach, Luke Williams’ first match in charge. On New Year’s Day, the Swans claimed a morale-boosting victory over West Brom thanks to Liam Cullen's second-half goal. West Brom had looked the more likely winners during a first half in which Brandon Thomas-Asante wasted a golden opportunity to put his side ahead. But the Swans improved markedly after the break, with Cullen delivering the game's decisive moment when he swept the ball low into the net from Harry Darling's knock-down. This was a notable triumph for the Swans, who won for the third time in seven games under the guidance of caretaker boss Alan Sheehan. It was just a fourth home league win of what has been a difficult season for the Swans, but the second in succession with Preston beaten in the previous home fixture. Whilst the Swans were beating the Baggies,a late Jacob Bedeau goal earned Morecambe a share of the spoils in a 2-2 draw in a League Two match against Harrogate Town at the Mazuma Stadium. The Morecambe defender scored in stoppage time as he bundled over a Farrend Rawson assist to deny another away victory for Harrogate. Simon Weaver's side looked like they had done enough to seal the three points after goals from Jack Muldoon and George Thomson either side of a Jordan Slew strike. The telling moment of the first half came as the visitors took the lead in the 44th minute. Matty Foulds crossed from the left and, after a goalmouth scramble, Muldoon bundled the loose ball home from close range. Despite losing JJ McKiernan, Adam Mayor and Michael Mellon to injuries, the Shrimps looked much sharper after the break and pulled level after 57 minutes. Slew took the ball on the left and cut inside before unleashing a low right-footed drive from 25 yards that beat James Belshaw low to his right. As the home side powered forward, they were undone on the counter attack. Levi Sutton played the ball out to the right and the cross was coolly dispatched by Thomson. Morecambe fought back bravely and scored a deserved equaliser two minutes into time added on when Bedeau bundled the loose ball in from close range from a King corner. Turning to tomorrow - the first ever meeting between the two sides - on paper the Swans should run out comfortable winners. That said, in some respects this is (effectively) Morecambe’s ‘Cup Final’ and with little or nothing to lose, I expect them to come out ‘swinging’ so to speak. However, I think that the Swans should have enough in the tank and give Luke Williams a win in his first match in charge. 3-1 to the Swans
Cheers Taff.... must be a home win, surely? I think we'll see a new manager bounce as well. 4 - 0. The resumption of the league programme is going to be far more interesting though.
Definitely a new manager bounce so it's also a 4-0 for me (which is what I based my Jan prediction on)
Gwion Edwards has just joined Morcambe however this game has probably come to early for him, as being an ex Swan he's bound to score. Hopefully a couple of U21 players get some game time alongside some more experienced players like Joe Allen. 3-0
All change! Joe Allen returns to the Swansea City starting line-up as skipper, while teenager Sam Parker gets another opportunity as the hosts show 11 changes for the FA Cup tie against Morecambe. Luke Williams takes charge of the Swans for the first time, and the hosts field a completely changed line-up from the one that concluded a hectic festive schedule with victory over West Brom. Andy Fisher makes his first appearance of the season in goal, while Kristian Pedersen and Azeem Abdulai return from injury in a defence also including Nathan Wood and Kyle Naughton. Allen is joined by Ollie Cooper and Charlie Patino in midfield. Parker and Yannick Bolasie occupy the wide roles, with Jerry Yates leading the line for the Swans. Kyrell Wilson, Filip Lissah and Nathan Tjoe-A-On could all make their senior Swansea debuts from the bench. I can’t watch as I’m out at a birthday bash - are we any good ? I forecast a 0-0 but I was hoping for much more.
Just popped in to check the score... 0 - 0 as it stands... expected a little more tbh. In other news Sheff Wed 3 - 0 Cardiff Silver linings and all that Off for a curry... fingers crossed!
Morecambe defending deep so as 55 says the 1st goal is important. I expect some changes early in the 2 half to try and unlock the Morecambe defence.
