Will the club signing up to work alongside the Supporters Trust encourage more people to become fully paid up members?

Addicks announce plans to work closely with the Charlton Athletic Supporters' Trust
    Matt Wright reports

Charlton are to have a closer working relationship with the newly established Charlton Athletic Supporters’ Trust (CAS Trust), the club announced on Friday.

Following discussions between the two groups, the Addicks have confirmed that the club intends to work collaboratively with the CAS Trust in a bid to promote fan engagement.

CAS Trust chairman Barnie Razzell said: “CAS Trust is an independent body, committed to preserving the football club for this and future generations.”

    Among the trust’s objectives are:

    * Giving the fans a voice and representing their interests in the running of the club
    * Actively supporting the club in achieving success on and off the pitch
    * Assisting to preserve the long-term future of the club, and in particular its history, culture, values and identity in its community

Razzell added: “In line with these objectives, we are committed to a strong positive engagement with the club, including constructive criticism where necessary, and this initiative represents a big step in that direction for all concerned.

“I would like to commend the board, and the efforts of executive vice-chairman Martin Prothero and chief operating officer Steve Bradshaw and their team, as well as Richard Murray, for their support of this initiative.

“We hope that the added value we want to bring can encourage this relationship to flourish further, and we believe that when club and fans are working together effectively, the sky is the limit.”

It is hoped that the collaboration will involve a number of initiatives, including boosting attendances.

And fans will be able to collect a free edition of trust publication ‘TNT’ when they buy a Valley Review at the final home game of the season against Bristol City on Saturday, May 4th (12.45pm).

The club will also promote the trust’s next survey, when significant prizes will be available to those supporters who complete the survey.

“We would like to congratulate CAS Trust for putting in place the building blocks of a new form of fan engagement at Charlton,” concluded Bradshaw.

“Over a short period, they have built a growing network of more than 1,800 fans since launching in December and over 330 full members.

“We feel that this is quite an achievement and that there is much to be gained from a partnership of this kind that will benefit the club and the trust, fulfilling the objectives of both organisations – which ultimately is to bring success on and off the pitch here at Charlton.”

CAS Trust is registered and regulated by a strict code of conduct from national body Supporters’ Direct. For more information on the trust and how to join, visit http://castrust.org/join.

A big congratulations to the supporters trust. They have managed to pocket a fiver from 330 gullible suckers that should otherwise had been spent on corsodil or modelling glue.

What exactly has been achieved? have they forced their way into the boardroom? Have they taken over the radio and tv stations? Has Citizen Razzil and his band of condoroy flannel wearing militants set up an office in woolwich town hall under their chosen flag of two crossed hornby trains. No. Not even close.

No. They will get a letter telling them what the boad have done after they have done it. It's hardly the night of the long knives or the mutiny on the bounty is it. As far as I can see it is a mug off, A victory to appease the egos and weak minded, rather like giving a doughnut to a crying fat kid whose doing gymnastics. They could save a fiver and just wait until the new shopper comes out.

The supporters club have all this anyway, (who must be delighted to be usurped) in this way. What the board know is this trust is just some silly little people with too much time on ther hands. They must be laughing their socks off. Of course we are gonna let you run the club, you mugs.

With the £1650 raised by the trust i suppose they can now have a say in the purchase of a new tea urn at sparrows lane.

What took you so long to bite Typical.I am one of the mugs who has put in a fiver.I must admit that I really expected the trust to take off,but I am very disappointed to see that paid up members has not reached four hundred yet.By that level of apathy it would suggest to me that the vast majority of Charlton fans do not want a Supporters Trust.

Much as it pains me to say it,you raise a number of pertinent points.I feel that the directors have decided to keep the enemy within so they can control it.The Trust has no teeth and will remain toothless unless there is a huge increase in membership.

What I do disagree with is calling very earnest well meaning people with Charlton in their hearts,as silly little people with too much time on their hands.Barnie and the rest of the committee started the Supporters Trust with the best of intentions and are working hard on making it work.

Whether it will ever become big enough to have some real clout I very much doubt but I will continue to support it.

Do you get free membership if you repeat your post on here two or three times, as everyone seems to be doing it- At first, I thought AHLL was trying to make a point of how little trust he had in the SP, but it seems to have caught on and even Dick Plumb feels the urge to say it all twice.

I think the server may be playing up - it's taking an awful long time to accept posts and then when it does, they seem to come up twice, or more. Very odd.

I said it five times. But then everything I post is worth reading at least five times.

I think the Supporters Trust is sabotaging this board. Someone here must have offended them.
