Surely you can just change his stats on FIFA and solve that problem. Edit his pace up to around 80-85 & commitment up to 75-80. Job done. <ok>

The thing Sunderland have done is bought players who are worth exactly how much they cost, because they're 'proven' in the league. You know what you're getting with the likes of Gardner and so on.

Newcastle on the other hand have taken more of a gamble and bought players who have turned out to be worth far more than they cost. Is Tiote worth £3mill? Is Cabaye worth £4.5mill? Is Ben Arfa worth £5mill? Are they ****.

As a result, the net spend is lower, but the quality is higher.

Sunderland have tried that approach with some players though. Dong-won and Wickham were both brought in as prospects, but they're more youthful prospects compared to what we've bought, so if they do turn out good, it may be a few years yet.

That also seems to have happened to Brown, but I think that's luck more than Bruce's judgement. I think everyone expected him to do the job at that age, but he's turned out better than most expected and kept the defence together at times. Fair play there.

Basically, Bruce has played it very safe, and as a result, he's left little room to grab himself a true bargain, and it's true bargains teams like ours need. Sunderland and Newcastle can't really afford £15-20mill players, but if you can use your judgement and grab yourself a player of that calibre for £5-10mill, then the results are the same. Mind you, I don't think we could have done what we've done without Carr's judgement.

Beatski you are missing one thing from your post - you've posted a load of common sense positions for players but how can that sit well with Fat Heads desire to fit round pegs in square holes?! Honestly the bloke is no better than Fat Sam for this kind of ****.
