Overall his signings are poor. Gone for the tried and tested (failed) method of buying 5-6 mid priced players i.e. free up to £4 million- and hoping for the best.
O'Shea and Brown are both good defenders, but Vaughan, Gardner and Larrson are at best average players as is shown by nobody else better trying to sign them. They are also all from relegated teams, and I dont care if they were good in their teams- they still were part of a crap side. Whickam is a fair, if expensive signing, and I am sure he will come good. But overall I would not want one single Sun'lun player as a signing to come into our team to replace anyone, nobody. Their defence on paper is ok, the midfield has no flair at all, and up front they need someone to play with Bender (who is not a bad player).
Bruce has spent plenty cash and ended up with a stinkin pile a gash.
Steady progress is finally being shown to be the cobblers it has been for 2 years now.

All they really needed was a left winger and left back, and Bruce has signed something like 12 players, none of which play those positions. Off the top of my head; Drenthe, N'Zogbia, even our own Marveaux were available for varied deals and prices and he doesnt seem to have looked at any of them.

They don't really have flair apart from Sessegnon and i'm not worried about the derby at SJP. We have alot of flair now, if anything Sunderland are like a Stoke, just solid ( but Sunderland don't really look solid ).

    Cabaye
    Marveaux
    Obertan

    Gardener
    Larsson
    Vaughn

Our midfield additions are better and have much more flair.

    Brown
    O'shea

    Santon

Their additions are solid, but they lack pace and are getting on now, they were seen as surplus to requirements at Man U ( Obertan was too i guess ). Santon is young, fast and is regarded as one of the best young full-backs around.

    Bendtner
    Wickham

    Ba

Wickham is regarded as a future England player, the only thing about him is, can he cut it in this league? Bendtner has confidence in his own ability and he may come good since he's getting game time. Ba has scored a hat-trick and netted against Wolves, he's also got a good record of goals wherever he's played. He just needs to be fit for the majority of the season.

I'll be blunt, Fat Head is an absolute clown transfer wise. While I rate some players he's signed, he has left two gaping holes for 3 years, left back and left wing. Why? Because he is convinced that Bardsley and Richardson are left backs. I should really just rest my case there! This year they also needed a proven striker. I actually like the two they've signed. Wickham has great potential and I like the Korean kid. But neither was the guaranteed source they needed. The other signing they could really have done with was a ball player to compliment Cattermoles aggression. What did he buy? Vaughan and Gardner. Gardner can't pass and is very average. He is flattered by his 10 goals last year for Birmingham. He was ****e whenever I saw the brummies. Vaughan is ok but hardly what they required. To me he puts no thought into how he builds a team. And if he does, then he should seek help as to why he is coming up with such **** conclusions!

would have liked O'Shea (since we need a LB/CB cover) but he'd only be a short term solution, probably massive wages though.

Wickham too, since we could do with some striker depth, and a youngster with potential would be even better since there wouldnt be immediate pressure to drop Ba/Best, but at £8mil(?) is too expensive IMO.

Also, if Bruce played a better formation (4231), they'd be doing better IMO, to have a random stab at it, i'd play:
    O'shea at LB
    Larrsson at RW
    Richardson at LW
    Sausage - AM
    Bendtner - ST
don't know who to play in CM since they're all average at best TBH

Clearly any player could have got them, Brown is **** and there was talk that we turned him down in 2005 because he wasn't good enough. If Quinn was off to get a mega rich owner then I ask the following.

    1. What was the cry baby Labour bloke meant to be doing?
    2. Why would Ellis Short become chairman if he was going to sell the ****?

Dont agree with you on Brown, I have always thought he was great, ever since he won the FA Youth cup with Man U many many moons ago, yes he has had bad luck with injuries over the years, but he is an exceptional defender, and i would still be saying that if you had have bought him instead, and he is 20* the defender O`Shea is, and 100* Turner.

as for Quinn bringing in a mega rich owner, time will tell but we already have one, QPR have one (mittal 30 billion fortune), yous have one, but we could get Warren Buffet or that Mexican media tycoon, and it wouldnt make a blind bit of difference, with this finacial fair play rule. We can only spend what we earn (if we want to get into europe) so it ties the hands of those playing catchup.

I agree. I said Brown was good and O'Shea was ****. O'Shea always has been **** imo and Brown has always been pretty solid - never let any team down
