Nothing ridiculous about that. Loads of bookies will have done the same in previous seasons. I bet Totesport had us down in 09/10.
They are following a similar path to Wigan, just avoiding relegation by the skin of their teeth for 2 or 3 seasons, then finally going down.
It used to be nearby Hartlepool was the manager's graveyard (not sure about my positioning of the apostrophe there ).
McCarthy was involved in their last two relegations. In 2003 he came in when they were doomed (Reid and Wilkinson having done the honours), and the end of his reign came in Feb 06, when Kevin Ball finished off the relegation season as caretaker. I reckon they should hire him at Christmas.
Watched Sunlun last week (mainly for Brady with Norwich) and whereas Brady has really settled in well in such a short time Sunlun are a shambles. Defoe wants out and is reportedly going to Bournemouth but his performance was terrible. Alongside Stephen Fletcher (gone at the game) and Danny (Not a Strikers @rsehole) Graham they are in big trouble. The one shining light was young Duncan Watmore who played like his @rse was on fire and showed lots of promise. Sunlun should have gone down last season instead of us but got really lucky in two consecutive games and snatched the points necessary to stay up.
That away win at Everton was our undoing. 2 deflected shots on target 2 goals. And whilst they battled at Arsenal for that draw, on another night it could have 6-0 to the Gunners. Hey-ho.
Everton absolutely battered them in that game. It's one of the strangest results of a one-sided match I've ever seen.
There's something seriously wrong at Sunderland. They are a big club, yet successive managers (Some pretty decent ones too) have all tried and failed. They are alway occupying the bottom echelons of the PL. Contrast them against other recently promoted clubs that generally see YOY improvements (Swansea/Palace/Stoke/Saints) I do find it all rather odd. I do think this season will finally be curtains for Sunderland, they can't continually have this near miss strategy. Players come and go managers come and go but they are consistently ****.
That Everton game wil never be beaten as the scabbiest result of all time. Graham's "goal" was absolute poverty.
Good. I can't stand Sunderland as a football club. Every year they show no ambition whatsoever to develop. Flounder in mediocrity and serve no purpose to the league. Year after year are they terrible and manage to scrape a few results together at the end of the season and scrape staying up. Obviously we deserved to go down last year based on points but based on performances it's incredible how they didn't go down. Persisting with Oshea and Brown says it all. I think this season will finally be the season they get what they deserve and get what's coming to them I lost a lot of respect for Defoe because Sunderland as a club is way beneath I'm.
Owner Ellis Short has lost interest. Pure and Simple. More bad news is that they could soon loose striker Jermain Defoe to relegation rivals AFC Bournemouth if the reports ring true. Some Good news mind. John O'Shea to come back into the leaky defence @ home to Swansea on saturday. Not all bad eh ?
