Well there's been a lot of discussion on here about bruce and his future but not a lot of it has be mentioned in the press. However, perhaps the press have been reading some of the forums and decided to make it into a story, lazy journalism or an element of truth.. Surely after all the talk off transfers and targets, bruce has already had the meeting and understands he is going nowhere. And it's time to get busy and move forward. STEVE BRUCE is fighting to save his job at Sunderland ââ¬â despite signing an extension to his contract until 2014 in February. The Black Cats sign off at West Ham today having lost 10 of their last 13 matches, and leaving owner Ellis Short asking whether 50-year-old Bruce is still the right man for the job. Bruce will present a summer shopping list of seven or eight players when he meets the Texan billionaire this week. But he will discover that Short is not rushing to pump more money into the club and Bruce can expect to face some searching questions. Nobody doubts Sunderland have had probably the worst injuries of any club in the Premier League this season. But there have been some bad deals in the transfer market ââ¬â including South American flops Marcos Angeleri, Paulo Da Silva and Cristian Riveros, as well as the costly loan signing of Sulley Muntari. Bruce has the complete backing of his chairman Niall Quinn and hopes this will be enough to give him some breathing space. He has always accepted his Geordie background would count against him in the eyes of some Sunderland fans, and he has taken some abuse in recent matches. Bruce said: ââ¬ÅI am more determined than ever just because I have had a bit of stick. In a daft way, I enjoy the challenge whatever it is. It makes you more determined to say ââ¬â¢Iââ¬â¢ll show themââ¬â¢... and shove it down their throats. ââ¬ÅYes, we have a huge job on here. We had Danny Welbeck, Fraizer Campbell, Darren Bent and Asamoah Gyan ââ¬â I thought that was going to be our strike force for the next five years. ââ¬ÅThey were all young, fit and healthy. All of a sudden now with Welbeck going back to Manchester United, Bent at Aston Villa and Campbell going to be out for a long, long time with his knee ligaments, we have one. Thatââ¬â¢s how difficult it is. ââ¬ÅThereââ¬â¢s a board meeting and Iââ¬â¢m going to see the owner. But letââ¬â¢s be honest, heââ¬â¢s already put in a fair few quid here.ââ¬Â
I tend to think we could still see a twist and a sting in the tail. Whatever the outcome of the board meeting Bruce can be in no doubt its put up time, no excuses next term.
