The conditional Charlotte Jones is putting the miles in today going all the way to Fakenham for 1 ride in the lucky last. Cumbria to the Norfolk coast and back is one hell of journey even on a Sunday. Baby Sham is her ride (presumably connections were fans of the 70s tipple). Opened around 16/1 and now half that. Worth a punt on a slow but sunny Sunday. The other ew fancy is Mr Sundowner @ 33/1 over at Kilbeggan, 3.30. Comeback run over 3 miles and back to 2 miles today where he’s been seen to best effect (admittedly hardly glowing form). Basement mark for the inform O’Hanlons. Good luck all.

Hi folks. Long time no see.

Posting selections for my new R.S. system. R.S. stands for 'Rather Strange', because although I know why I make the picks, I really am not sure why it has worked well over the 3 days I've tried it so far (May 28th, 29th, June 1st). And no, I have not taken any notice of price movements, in case you think I'm backing steamers. You'll see (if checking current prices) that a couple of today's picks have drifted, though most seem to have been backed in.

    There have been 13 selections, with winners (at best bog prices) being 13/2, 6/1, 5/1, 9/2, 9/2. Placers: 4th 18/1, 2nd 13/2, 2nd 9/2, I do win only, and profit has been 17 points.

Today (prices are SL f'cast SP):

    Nott. 1.40 Mission Command 10/1

    " 2.15 Fine Gold 10/1

    L'owell 3.17 Without Words 10/3

    H'ton 3.40 Motawahij 7/2

    " 4.40 Too Friendly 6/1

    5.40 Strong Impact 7/1

Backing all at 1 point win.

Bit late posting but maybe the New Bay colt, Alcantor, could surprise in the Group-1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly (15:05) over an extended 1m2f on very soft ground. Could well improve upped in trip? Mickael Barzalona on boarrd for the André Fabre stable.

12/1 (Betfred) top price early-doors on the ATR site. E/W best option.

Was well-backed at 5/1 SP, but did not have the pace to get into the race in the latter stages. Very nice winner for journeyman jockey Ronan Thomas; he rode a fine race on the winner.

The (16:55) at Nottingham, a Class-5 Handicap over an extended 1m. on good ground, gives the Mayson gelding, The Spotlight Kid, a sound chance of winning this affair. Suited by track conditions and back with a jockey who gets on well with him. Wears cheek-pieces as in previous races. Cieren Fallon rides for the D K Ivory yard.
9/2 (Wm.Hill/BetWay) best price early-doors on the ATR site.

Seconditis today, the closest being Strong Impact, only beaten a nostril in a blanket finish.

Without Words finished a very good second with a strong galloping finish, despite being left several lengths behind the field at the start, but I'm not sure she would have caught the winner anyway. It's possible that Without Words could do with a longer trip, judging by the relentless fast gallop of her finish. Don't think she can do a fast burst finish, but her style could suit a furlong or more further. I'm sure she could handle Im 4f without a problem.

Mutahajis also finished very well for his second, but as a female commentator noted before the race, he seemed to carry a bit of condition compared with the eventual winner, which stripped fitter.

I think that Without Words and Mutahajis are very likely to win NTO.

Anyhow, 6 points loss on the day.

Mr Sundowner almost managed me a bit of ew thievery but young Charlotte was just in Fakenham for the Norfolk sunshine. Worse places to be.
