There might be a few people watching the results at Deauville today but some of us will not be seeing what we expected. At 4:00 UK time, the Prix Gontaut-Biron sees eight going to post for the ten furlong contest but Jean Claude Rouget’s Vadeni is not amongst them. That does appear to leave the race looking like an excellent opportunity for Andre Fabre’s filly Place Du Carrousel, last seen in April running down the field in the Prix Ganay. Clearly she has been held back for an autumn campaign, so as she may not strip fit this afternoon I am not interested at the short odds on offer with the British layers. The bookies have Listed winner Bolthole as second favourite despite him being beaten at Vichy last time in a Group 3 by Hughie Morrison’s One For Bobby, with Kertez fifth and Monty seventh.

The Prix Minerve at 1:33 is a twelve furlong race for three year old fillies and the bookies have Prix de Diane third Tasmania odds on to step up a couple of furlongs and return to winning ways. She had Tom Marquand on board at Chantilly but he rides against her today on Crack Of Light for William Haggas. She was beaten in a Longchamp Group 2 last time but won a Listed race there before that so this Group 3 is probably about her level. Ryan Moore rides Shamwari for Joseph O’Brien but she was out with the washing in the Listed Naas Oaks Trial and has only won a maiden race on the kitty litter. Jessica Harrington’s Scarlett O’Hara won her maiden at this distance and steps back in trip after finishing third in a Group 3 over fourteen furlongs; however, she did run second in a maiden on soft ground so should be okay with conditions. Of the rest of the home team, Group 3 Prix de Royaumont third Engaliwe may be the best but she was well beaten there and has not run since June.

The Prix Jacques Le Marois (3:26) looks very open, perhaps because there are so many with questions to answer. I think it is fair to discount the real outsiders like Angers and Life In Motion. The ground is probably good news for Kevin Ryan’s 2000 Guineas runner-up Hi Royal but he was subsequently beaten in the Irish 2000 and well beaten in the Prix Jean Prat won by Good Guess over seven furlongs. Fabrice Chappet’s other runner today Onesto has yet to see a racecourse this term and would be a surprise winner. Jean Claude Rouget runs Erevann but the Aga Khan’s colt has disappointed in two starts, finishing second last in the Prix d’Ispahan and was only third in this last year. The bookies seem quite happy to lay Inspiral after she trailed in last in the Sussex and she was in much better form when she won this last year, beating Light Infantry. The British firms have Big Rock as favourite on the strength of his second in the Prix Du Jockey Club, where he finished two-and-a-half lengths ahead of Marhaba Ya Sanafi. I would actually prefer Andreas Schutz’s Poulains winner dropped back to a mile here (Good Guess was sixth in the Poulains). However, I am going for a Frankel winner today with Kevin Ryan’s Queen Anne winner TRIPLE TIME. He beat Inspiral and Light Infantry that day and it looks like he has been trained for this race having not been seen since and he does have winning form on soft ground.

    16:50 Curragh - Kayhana

Current price of 9/1 is tempting for sure. Seems to be progressive. Modest interest only. E/W best option.
