Anyone remember when the Birmingham City fans were telling us that Jobe was **** and we’d overpaid at £3m?

Yep. They didn;t need him because he's not as good as **checks notes** George Hall - currently on loan at Walsall.

As been said before, obviously Jobe and his family has planned his career and how they want it to proceed and develop - I can totally understand that. Yes it was said at the time of him signing that we were astepping stone to the next level but the one thing I can't really understand is, it's been said in the media by Jobe that he wants to have his own career and not be compared to his brother - fair dos - but he's going to the one club he will defintely be compared with his brother. I can understand to an extent, Jude was brought on there and the Dortmund made him into the player he is today plus offer Champions League football but if Jobe isn't wanting to be compared to Jude (and lets face it, no matter where he goes, he probably will) but this will totally focus that comparison

Yep completely agree. The poor lad will be faced with this comparison every game he plays unless he's the man of the match. People will say "not as good as Jude". It doesn't matter how good he gets. He really needed to distance himself from it as much as possible.

But from a pure footballing perspective it's probably the right choice. And also the familiar one. The family seem to like familiarity. That's how we got him in the first place.

I think he will be able to transition to the prem quite nicely, but it's definitely a lot less exciting than having Huijsen.

Yeah I think they chose it because of that familiarity - they know the club treated Jude well and brought him on and want that for Jobe - what family wouldn't? If he was named Jobe Bloggs, I think he would be viewed as his own player in his own right rather than being compared to Jude. We all knew he was going to leave at some point and yes I'm disappointed he is leaving now - maybe this is the best scenario for everybody, the club as well as Jobe but I want to be greedy and watch him that bit longer and see how we would've done with him in the side.

Hearing Birmingham fans saying Jobe wasnt as good as George Hall reminds me of this interview involving a young Frank Lampard, Harry Redknapp and a disgruntled fan saying Scott Canham was better than him...

Sunderland AFC has submitted its retained list for the 2025-26 season.

Following confirmation of Enzo Le Fée’s four-year contract at the Stadium of Light, all first-team players have been retained except Chris Mepham and Salis Abdul Samed, who return to their parent Clubs.

Mepham arrived from AFC Bournemouth and made 40 appearances, playing an instrumental role in the Club’s promotion to the Premier League.

Abdul Samed featured on 11 occasions and, in addition to his contributions on the field, he became an equally important figure in the dressing room throughout the campaign.

Tommy Watson has also completed a move Brighton & Hove Albion following a heroic ending to his time on Wearside, which saw him score a stoppage-time winner at Wembley Stadium to send Sunderland to the Premier League.

Under-21 squad members Ben Crompton, Cuba Mitchell, Caden Kelly, and Kelechi Chibueze will leave the Club this summer, with second-year scholars Aaron Chung and Daniel Parker also departing the Academy of Light.

Ben Middlemas, Oliver Bainbridge, Marshall Burke, and Daniel Cameron have agreed one-year extensions, with Ethan Moore and Timur Tutierov also offered new terms following the end of their respective contracts.

Ben Kindon, Ben Metcalf, Jack Whittaker, and Jaydon Jones have been offered their first professional contracts at the Club.

All at SAFC thank each departing player for their respective contributions, and we wish them well in the next chapter of their careers.

Redknapp absolutely nailed that one mind. Love to see owt like that a gaffer (admittedly family tied) going to war for his player.

Reading that, I wonder if they are going to try and make Mepham a permanent signing. Doesn't seem that way to me

It would be nice to think that was a way to drive the price down for Mepham

    Bournemouth want to keep him,

but I think he will sign and be sent out of load again,

He wants to stay and they are working on deal to keep him,
just other factors to take into account

Tbf he wasn’t that good when he first signed here. It’s how much he’s improved that makes him the player he is today. Scary the development already
