I’ve given up on Alese tbh. And Huggins. Just taking anything we get from them as a bonus. Real shame because I think Huggins looked better than both Hume and Cirkin when he had a run in the team but he must have brittle bloody bones because he gets the most bizarre injuries.

I think both have been unlucky with injuries.
Alesse had a problem because we rushed him back for the Luton play off game, admittedly we had no one else but not his fault. A leg break is always a risk that you take in football.
Huggins has a history of injury problems but the one that put him out most recently could not be forecast.
I think that both of these players have a future and just need careful handling until they are 100% fit, physically and mentally. There's definitely two decent footballers there.

The figure being quoted by most now is 10m rising to 12m with add-ons. Didn’t realise he was 29 like, so a few years too old for us.

Also hearing they’re trying to bring in Callum Wilson. That guy is finished now, he’ll barely make it on the pitch.

I agree Wilson is toast, even Toon fan pals have said he’s done. That’s not a good move.

A hot and a miss is an ok start for them in market though.

 

I expect us to take a very different approach to signing established international 29 year olds for £15m.

Aye they will do it very different to us.

We will have a map for ‘dropping again and coming back brighter’ they will be fully focused on ‘we MUST stay up now’.

Longer term we are probably better vision wise.

 

Agreed. Good player but short term thinking which can work in their favour but is also a risk.

I think we will be starting the new '5 year plan' with next season being year 1 and us surviving relegation in year 3 (whether that be staying up in year 1 and two or dropping down next year and getting promoted the year after). Signings will be made with that in mind, just imo.

Goal 1 will be to stay up in year one.
If not, Goal 2 will be to get automatically promoted and stay up in year 2/3

all signings and contract renewals need to cover both scenarios

 

We need some wise older players mind. I’d prefer premier league adjusted ones though and I’m not sure you can call him that. Good player who hasn’t impacted this league. I wouldn’t pay that much for someone that age who can’t help others adjust.

 

Don't believe everything you read, if you do we will be starting with Callum Wilson and Vardy up front and around £200m worth of other talent on the pitch. Lazy journalism and agents drumming up interest.

Today's striker link is Arnaud Kalimuendo, it's likely he will join Newcastle though but it shows we are shopping for experience in some areas and a younger gamble in others - The truth is all clubs will have made tentative enquiries over 5-6 players for every position they are looking to strengthen, some enquiries like Fernandes from Sunderland will come back that they want £50m and you'll move on

With FFP hindering newly promoted teams more than ever we are all going to need 2-3 shrewd signings

Ipswich went the approach of young players with no PL experience or simply not good enough and look where it has got them. They all want rid of Jack Clarke now, his value would have decreased, they have to be favourites for an immediate return but they'll have the same problem if they do.

 

I've been impressed with Huggins on the limited number of times I've seen him.....he's an excellent player. I think he's been getting very careul handling....he's been training wih the first team for a while now,but there's never been any hint of him being match ready. He'll be hoping for a good pre-season and if he can get into the reckoning he can be a great addition for us....it'll almost be like a new signing. He's still only 24 and will be entering the last year of his contract,although I think we have an option on a further year. Just hope the lad can stay injury free from here on.

FFP affects us all differently, though. You’ll have less wiggle room because of your already relatively high wage bill, so you’ll have less room for manoeuvre in that department. We’ve managed promotion without really spending anything and a bottom half wage bill.

 

No chance. We aren’t going to start pushing ourselves to the boundaries of FFP. I think we’ll always leave ourselves plenty in hand for a big push to kick on once we are consolidated, like Brighton have just done last season.

I have a feeling we might actually make a profit this transfer window. Bellingham 30m, maybe another couple out. I don’t think we’ll have a high net spend, at all.

 

They also have parachute money mate. We are probably about par, although we are carrying less debt and less owed in fees out.

I can see us and Leeds having a real chance, with 2 completely different approaches to it.

Their ownership group won’t be ****ing about accepting they may drop then return. No way.

 

I agree if affects us differently but our accounts are showing we can spend £130-£150m depending on departures, that can be wiped our with 3-4 signings.

Oh, I agree. I think Leeds have a very good chance of staying up. I see a much brighter future for us with our approach. We are thinking long term, Leeds seem to be throwing everything into the short term of staying up being absolutely everything. Where will they be in a couple years when they’re on the limit of FFP with a team full of 30 year olds.
